Buying a new '19 Z06

Intermediate
I just bought a dealer new 2017 Z06 3LZ A8 coupe, sticker was $99.9k. Dealer sold it to me for $82K out the door. I played with every Chevy dealer in Chicago area to finally get this number. Traded in my 14 Z51. I'm so damn happy. This is the greatest car. This is my 4th Vette. Had 2 C6"s. It's a beast my man!

I don't understand how in some threads people brag about getting 20% off MSRP but in other threads talk about depreciation being so bad....from MSRP.
I paid $80k for my 2017 Z06/7 last April and it stickered for $100k. Let's say my car is worth $65-$68k today, I do not see that as terrible because it was arguably never worth $100k, or else I would not have been able to buy it 20% off!
If I would have bought a 911 for MSRP, lightly optioned, so lets say $105k, trade in would be under $80k now, private party maybe high 80's, so very similar to Corvette except much higher entry price for the high performers.
Friend of mine bought a new Cayman GTS and oil changes are $600. Keep that in mind!

I bought my 2008 JSB C6Z in 2012. It had only 4200 miles on it and was as perfect as it could be. At the time the 2012s were in the $90k range. I paid a premium given the car and its GM extended warranty til late in 2017, but still only paid $50k. Probably a lot smarter than my 2016 Z purchase at new for $96k on a $106k sticker. I put 15,000 miles on the C6Z and traded it for $36k or $14,000 depreciation for those 16,000 miles and 4 years. My current car has 7500 miles and is 20 months old and has depreciated $30k in that time. Clearly you get a better deal buying used particularly given that so many of us treat our cars like a family heirloom and only take it out on sunny weekends. The great thing about the Corvette is that there are so many pristine used cars to choose from. On my 2008 I did a nationwide search, bought it from a good CF member. Flew to Austin did the transaction at his bank the day I arrived and drove it 2000 miles home over the next 3 days. A great way to get to know your new car.

I am trading a 2013 ZR1 and a 2015 Z06 for a 2019 Z06. I am getting the latest version of the Z06 and clearing space in the garage as well as freeing up some time. Best, I will go pick up the new car and put major bucks in my pocket. Now those bucks are a partial return of cash previously spent on these 2 cars, but it's better in my pocket than sitting in my garage.
I always prefer new. I went for the 2013 ZR1 because it was the last King of the Hill. Now that it's not, it's less valuable to me.
None of these cars appreciate in value, but they are awesome toys.

I purchased a 2016 Z that has nearly every option and stickered at $108k. Paid $75k for with 9500 miles on it. Saving over $30k for a car that was practically brand new seemed like the only way to go ... unless you have a surplus of money and don't mind taking the huge loss.

I agree bro.. I’m just a guy with a regular job that saved and works hard. Kids are grown in college. Payed plenty of child support and just paid my son’s college bill. I’m 41 years old and yes, I started young lol. But now it’s time to spoil myself. Some of my co-workers talk crap about it’s a waste of $$. My thing is, u only live once. And thanks to everyone in here with the positive feedback! Appreciate it
Im 42, have a 2yr old boy, and another one on the way

This will be an interesting fall. Will Corvette introduce a 2020 in the fall of 2018, (and do the usual end of model year discounts) or will they continue the 2019 until the plant shutdown in June 2019? Order a 2019 now, get 10-12% off msrp, and enjoy the exact car of your dreams. But don't go back online, your dream in different optioned form just had 20% removed from the price by GM while sitting on a lot (see below.) The lowest price discount GM offers on a clearance car becomes the OFFICIAL MSRP. So from 20-25% off original MSRP, a fall from the REAL MSRP ($80k's) new, to the used car high $60k's isn't a big drop. But keep referring back to that artificial original MSRP sticker price of a hundred grand (which nobody has paid since the Z06 was introduced in 2015,) and the high sixties used price sounds like the sky is falling. Buy used and save your bucks, the fear of an over-revved z06 during break-in is unlikely, given the Godly status that the new z06 is ascribed from most original buyers.

JD, I respect your position man. But for me, I am going down to one Vette, and it won't be a C6 ZR1.
