$1,000 for California Registrations Renewal on 2016 Z07??

You sure got this right! I paid almost $800 for my registration this year. I hope the idiot voters in this state wake up and vote this down in November!
There is an initiative on the November ballot to repeal this registration and gas tax increase; those who live here in this crazy liberal left state like me need to vote for the repeal then. If you live here get out and vote it down in November. As an aside, this tax got thru without a vote from the public because the legislature managed to get a supermajority of democrats put in office during the last election and the rules in the legislature allow them to do this (pass tax increases without a vote of the people) when they have a supermajority. The one democrat legislator that was voted in to put them over the top and reach a supermajority by one vote was just recalled in the June primary and fired. His replacement is a Republican and so they no longer have a supermajority and can't do this anymore. The recall petition that got him thrown out was put on the ballot by the same group of enraged citizens that got the "repeal gas tax" initiative put on the November ballot which we sane people in California are pushing for. So hopefully the increase of 12 cents a gallon gas tax and the ridiculous increase in registration fees that went into effect on Jan 1 of this year will go away in November as well a Governor "moonbeam" Jerry Brown, the wacko's leader, who is termed out in November.
It wasn't always like this here, and I've been here 63 years, but ever since Sacramento was taken over by a far left band of liberal democrat socialists, who for the most part live in the Bay Area, Silicon Valley, and LA, life here has been wacko and living conditions politically ridiculous for the rest of us. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back to the right eventually and some semblance of sanity will return. In the meantime I'm too old to leave, and simply ignore the worst of it and enjoy the God given weather, beaches, mountains and most neighbors and sane people, and of course, my Corvette.

My fellow voters in Calif.....
For some reason never seem to wakeup and have different visions of leadership, budgets and all than I. Incumbents seem to be reelected and we get many bad choices to vote for.
$1000 a year registration is ridicules.
FWIW my 1982 Honda that I paid $400 cost $130 for Calif registration last year.
Oh well, rant over.

I know, I live in a "Hillbilly" state, but-t-t-t, I pay $27.50 per yr. for car tags on my '16Z. That's all, no other taxes on the car specifically. $752 per yr. real estate (home/land) for 1760 sq.ft.home on 24 acres & personal property (boat, car, tractor, etc.). For $250K you can get a beautifully finished 3100 sq.ft. built home, on 10 or bit more acres, overlooking one of our 2 crystal clear lakes or 2 world class trout streams (Norfork/White rivers). Crime is non-existent except for local "meth heads" stealing to feed their habit & not much of that since most of us have numerous firearms in the home/on person. Beautiful rolling hills with wildlife out the butt. I feed deer/turkeys in driveway 20 yds from deck even while sitting on it having a cold one. Closest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. I know living in the "sticks" isn't for some but I chose this spot 24 yrs ago & still get a smile on my face each time I turn into my 400' long driveway off a county road that sees maybe 50-60 cars all day ( 2 mile long/chip & seal dead end). I love reading about some of the other places to remind me how good life is here. Again, not knocking anyone's location 'cause I realize some have to go where their profession takes them to make a living & raise a family. Wish all of you the best-sincerely! Sorry this was so long.

I suppose there could be folks like me, or folks like you. The rub is that folks that have your desires settle in a small town in Cali and have to pay the same taxes I do without benefiting from or desiring my lifestyle. That's where the rub is!

I like the fact that I live in the heart of a city. I can walk to just about everything I need. I don't need to travel at all to find good company. While we have some crime it's mostly property crime. I had to replace my gym bag a few times and a couple of side windows. However, I don't have to worry about someone shooting me because they had a bad day, hardly anyone has a gun around here. While everything is expensive around me, we also have some of the highest salaries in the country. I can spend it on locally/organic grown just about anything and have plenty left over in savings and don't have to feed any chickens myself. I strictly prefer spending time around people than having to grow my own food and take care of vast property, though that's always a possibility down the line if I choose to. There are suburbs and small farm towns in California too.

Perhaps you live in a worse area than you think if the people around you would turn into guns-a-blazin' homicidal maniacs just because they had a "bad day" and owned a firearm. I've NEVER had my window broken or anything stolen from my car either.
Homicidal people and "just" property crimes... hmmm... Perhaps you and I have much different definitions of what a "good area" is.

Odd. LOTS of people around me have guns (both here in Henderson and in AZ), and somehow, I also don't worry about "someone shooting me because they had a bad day".

“Although gun buybacks appear to be a logical and sensible policy that helps to placate the public’s fears" the reported continued, “the evidence so far suggests that in the Australian context, the high expenditure incurred to fund the 1996 gun buyback has not translated into any tangible reductions in terms of firearm deaths.”

You've got it better than you think..
Arizona is RIDICULOUSLY expensive for registrations.
My 2016 Z06:
Registration for
2016: $1590
2017: $1376
2018: $1158
Need to keep them hundreds of years before it becomes realistic.
My 2016 Ford F150:
2017: $784
2018: $675

Lessons from Austrailian-style confiscation? Okay, I can quote articles too:

If you prefer to trust that your neighbor is always fully rational, in control, and he can use any tools at his disposal at any time, that's fine by me. You may interpret my stance to be that people should vote with their feet. Live in an area where folks share your views.

The problem here is that you assume I have a horse in the race. For example you quoted "good area" while I never presented my preference to be the totem for "good." You pulled the trigger a little too fast.

Living in the USA means that people are innocent until proven guilty, so yes, I assume my neighbors are law-abiding and non-homicidal until such time that they give me a reason to believe otherwise. Do I still lock my doors? Of course, but that affects only ME, and is a far cry from me wanting other's rights to be curtailed just because my neighbor *has the ability* to break the law.
But we totally agree on "voting with your feet" as far as where we live. I am honestly happy that your chosen neighborhood area makes *you* happy.

I didn't mind the $674 renewal in 17 for my 16, but I did mind my $9000 in Ca fees when I first registered the car in 16 and that was with a C6Z trade in. We will see in a month or so what the 2018 fee will be.
But I did do the tax refugee thing in 2003 and moved to LV. Then tried Scottsdale in 2005-2010 and finally came back. Much cheaper but the weather sucked and not many beaches, nice people though.

You're right -- as you were extolling all the virtues of your area, I had mistakenly assumed you were saying it was "good", but I shouldn't have used quotes because you didn't actually use that word.

Then there is the finality of homicide. You can't attend your own trial from 6 ft under. I suppose there is something very pure in that you trust everyone and even the legal process, but me, call me a pragmatic when it comes to life or death.
It's nice to have 50 states to choose from, and that some are small and cohesive, and but when it comes to big states like California not everyone is going to get their way. There is a diversity of wants and few of your tax dollars are going to fit your ideal distribution.

As for voting with your feet, I moved from one of the highest crime regions in North America (Regina, Sask - yeah, Canada) to the Seattle suburbs. So I traded crime for stupidly high bus taxes. Pick your poison, I guess.

May be true, but don’t forget about the Massachusetts excise tax based on the value of your car. Comes up every year. It’s the same thing as California in a different package. Though I still own a house in Mass, it’s why I choose to have all my good stuff like my Z, boat etc based in Florida where my 2nd home is and spend a lot less time in Mass. Too many Libtards there too.
