Need your opinion on Z06 or Base Stingray
Hi Guys,
I am trying to decide what corvette fits me better.
I narrowed it down to either base stingray or Z06. Obviously I can save so much by going for stingray.
I am not a track guy and probably will not go there at all. I have not driven any corvette yet, so here is my question:
For me the most important thing is feeling the torque and power in beginning. I want to be pushed back to my seat and say woooow.
Do you think that I need to have Z06 for sure to get that feeling or Stingray also can give same feeling?

Not what you want to hear, but get the GS. 650 hp is great I suppose, but not really necessary unless you are a big road or drag racer. But the wide body is necessary. Better in every way than the narrow body.

So you think for 0-60mph I can not even feel the difference?

Of course you can feel the difference. But I don't think the difference between a 3.6 sec time or a 3.3 sec time is all that important if you are DDing the car. Also w 650 hp you are having to spend more time pedaling the car to keep the tires from spinning than you do in a GS. At any rate I think the big difference is the wide body, wheels and brakes. So for me it would always come down to a choice between a GS and a Z. I chose the Z, but likely would be just as happy with the GS.

I read before also that GS is the sweet spot. Just was not sure if that 200 extra hp is needed for my purpose.
So now I have new option to my research.

Yes, there is a huge difference in feel between the base motored cars and the Z06. The Z06 will make you go “Wow”...however, depending on what you driven in the past so could a base stingray.

I suggest driving both and deciding from there. I originally planned on getting the base car with the Z51 package. Then the wide body Z06 came out and I liked it even more. The torque of the LT5 can be felt at every stop light and doesn't need to be reved up. The GS is a great balanced track car but lacks the muscle of the Z06. In reality they are all wonderful cars and it's great we have the choices.

As said go drive both, the GS should be easier to find and drive, but if no local dealer has one to drive contact a local Corvette club. Personally if it's not a money thing I would get the Z06, I have had 5 now, just think it's the best looking Vette out there, and I don't track my cars cause I am old, just want Chevy's best

I would ask the OP what he or she has driven in the past before recommending a model, if your a person with little to no experience behind the wheel of a powerful car I would recommend the GS as the car is very balanced and plenty fast, if you have owned several capable go fast cars in the past a Z06 would be the clear choice....

Why take the chance that you might regret just go straight to the Z. I have never own a Vette in my life and if I do it would on be C7Z.

the torque down low on the Z06, makes it 3x more fun on the street, who ever disagree, never drove one!!
Its not only power figures, its all about HOW the power is delivered in a Z06!! Drive one, you'll understand!

I went from a M7 Z51 C7 to a M7 Z06.
The Z51 acceleration is great, but the 0-100 feeling in a Z06 is totally different.
I agree the widebody cars look great, however to me the car has so much swagger that a 460 HP NA motor doesn't cut it.
Get the Z06.

The better the roads the better the Z06 is! But good roads are hard to find in my area. And I find my stingray does a better job of handling the poor infrastructure, being a lot more forgiving on harsh roads with uneven wear patterns, pot holes, patched strips all over the place. Having both cars on the same roads gives me insight to which I prefer. All things mentioned here taken in to consideration my stingray is the car of choice. It does however, now feel like it is in limp mode. The GS needs to really fill the gap with more HP. Its a personal choice and since you are not going to track your car why would you want a race suspension to live with on a car we drive mostly for pleasure?

I had an 2104 stingray and loved it, however, I spotted the Z06 at a dealership and fell in love with the look and bought one. The wow factor is significant, and I do love the Z06, but there are downsides as well. First is cost as they are significantly more expensive to purchase and maintain and new tires when necessary are problematic there is an issue with availability, options, and cost. Finding someone that is competent to perform installations of them is an issue as well. If you want a car that will turn heads, sound great go for the Z06. If you want a comfortable car to drive and not break the bank go with the stingray or grand sport. You can put a pro charger on the GS if more power is what you are looking for. However, the tire issue remains. I do not track the car except for some occasional hot laps. I did 2 trips on Route 66 in the stingray and it was a pleasure to drive and a comfortable ride. I am not sorry that I bought the Z06 and I do love it, but for the first corvette I would still recommend the stingray.

My experience is that in normal everyday driving, there is not a substantial difference between the way power is delivered to the wheels with Sting Ray/GS LT1 vs the Z06 LT4. Both power plants are more than adequate in delivering a very satisfying driving experience in urban/suburban driving, and I certainly would NOT shy away from the Sting Ray/GS if that is your primary use.
The BIG difference comes when accelerating at speed (60 mph plus) --- at the track. Under those types of conditions, the Sting Ray/GS will still give you a great deal of performance for your dollar, and is actually a lot of fun to drive on the track because it is much easier to drive through corners, etc than the Z06. With the Z06, you better have all distractions eliminated with 100% concentration, and both hands on the wheel because the beast really comes out. The Z06 will push you right through the back of the seat all the way up to about 160 mph before it starts to level out. The suspension system and brakes are terrific in both cars --- but with the Z06, things can get a little squirrelly through corners if power application is not managed correctly.
So consider your primary driving application, and make your decision --- can't really go wrong either way.

If money is not a big factor than get the Z06. You will without doubt feel the power each and every time you hit that gas pedal. Drive a GS or a base Stingray then a Z and the decision is made even easier for you.

Comments that relate to practicality are a bit naive. If you want practical, get a Malibu. Talk about "having to pedal the car" make no sense. You simply drive it by taking into account what you are working with, along with knowing one's limitations. Lots of detailed answers are required in order to advise someone. Ultimately it boils down to what is always the case in life, more bucks for more. If someone is in doubt they probably should opt for the lesser one.
