Why do so many new Corvette owners 2015, 2018 wish to drag race their Corvette?
It is common knowledge that the new C7 Corvette have the wrong camshaft in the engine for drag race performance. Chevrolet apparently does not notice how many owners do not track their car, but desire the performance of a drag car.

Never has been a drag racer. Every since it's inception it has been a road cruiser that evolved to a sports car once Duntov got his hands on it. If you think about it Drag Racing is sort of boring. You get in line to wait your turn and once you hit the starting line the race is over in less than 30 seconds and you go back to the paddock to wait for an hour or so before you get your next 15 second shot. In a day at the track you actually race your car for a minute or maybe two minutes total.
At most track events your scheduled time on track is around an hour and a half per day. Costs more to do but you get a lot more for your money and at the end of the day you are physically whipped from pulling Gs and the amount of mental focus spent on driving the car.

I think that some of us who grew up in the 50's and 60's still drag race because that's what we did back then. We'd go out on weekends and cruise looking for races until the early hours of the morning. I don't remember any of my buddies back then being into any other type of racing. I'm sure people would cringe if I told them how much street racing I did in those days. You also have to keep in mind that back in the day many of the muscle cars were designed for straight line performance. It was a very special time and I have some great memories and stories from the "good old days."

Common knowledge? How so?
Are you saing 650lbft of torque out of the hole is too little or too much? You just kinda dropped a turd on Chevy with a history of one post and then left...
As for the "why", it's because, traction aside, it's the simplest way to measure who has the most power. No roll racing, no bench racing, none of that BS. Leave at the same time and first to a mark wins. Levis. Rolex. Stratocaster. Corvette.
Or, if you know who PewDiPie is, you likely prefer to roll race.

I would certainly drag race my C7Z more if I had the right camshaft. Stupid GM.

I think drag racing is strong in certain circles because America became good at building horsepower in the 60's. Cars couldn't handle exceptional well like the Europeans, but they could haul. In terms of skillset, I don't think there is any comparison to road racing, not that drag racing requires zero of course, but I personally don't get it. Like Bill D. said above...you wait all day to run your car for what...like maybe 4 minutes total...lol? I personally think drag racing is a waste of a great car. Old muscle cars, or purpose built drag machines...I think that's cool...even if you buy a Demon...it's a bit purpose built, but a Corvette belongs on a road course/canyon/driving road.

Because it's fun. Been drag racing over 40 yrs and it fun. U don't have to go to a track. U can hang out with friends , then go off and race. Usually this happens at night when it's cool, not in the heat of the day. Also it's not around other traffic, it's late at night on a empty road. It is harder to road course race your car on the street. Not sure why someone would say this car not set up to drag race, if u ask all the folks I beat they would not say that.

Based on what? Corvette has long been regarded as a "bang for you buck" straight line car, and I finally think that it has gained some international respect due to its all round track capability. If I wanted a drag car, I'd pursue a Dodge Demon. No thanks.

Nothing like a 1/4 mile drag race, flat out no lift shifting, banging those gears, reaction time to the lights and nailing the perfect launch.

the nhra and drag strips were created originally to get street racers off the street in the 1930's. drag racing is intertwined in the culture of the USA.
road racing is more fun though for sure.
