Is voiding powertrain warranty worth it?
Considering voiding powertrain warranty (3 yrs left)
to do a pulley and corsa headers/ tune and keep car as streetable as possible.
already have AFE intake/mamo TB/corsa x pipe
I have an A8 and don’t track just spirited runs at 430am with wide open roads.
not worried at all of the quality of work at local speed shop.
does anyone have this setup that has experiences issues later regretting voiding warranty?
Thanks for the input

Go to the track and then you won’t want or need to add hp ;-) It’s not worth it,I’d rather keep the warranty as long as possible unless I had a cool 10-15k to throw at the car if anything goes wrong. These are expensive cars to fix when something goes wrong. List price on an LT4 is around 12-15k I believe.

Considering that our engines aren't cheap, IMO, no it's not worth it.
And even if you don't consider the engine, everything else isn't exactly "cheap and easy" to replace, if you decide to replace and fund the replacement yourself if you in fact, void your warranty with a tune and other mods.
That's why i believe the big 3 mods, in which you already done, is good enough for a car already fast as it is in stock form.
I don't foresee me owning this car after the warranty is done. I expect to have upgraded to the C8 (if it comes by 2021) or upgrading to the manual ZR1 giving me more time on the warranty.
As these cars become more advanced and complicated, the last thing you want, is to start replacing and fixing stuff, all out of warranty. Back in the day this was easier, but cars these days demand a warranty.

Depends on the mods and your goals. The mods I have on mine make a huge difference. You spend how much on ZR1 vs a discounted Z06? Intake, headers, 2300 Supercharger, and now the newest one the ZR1 TB
then a tune. Then the DCS controller and then the stock car is dull and almost no fun once you have driven a Z06 with 800 plus Hp with those mods!

Only you can truly answer that. I have mine modded for 2 of the 3 years so far of my warranty and no issues at all. If you have a top shop do the work and trust them, go for it. It is all about your tolerance of risk/reward. Either way the car is a blast. It is your $$$, spend as you wish. If you don't have the funds to repair it, then definitely don't do it. I have not been able to grasp the number of engine drivetrain failures with lightly or highly modified engines. Either it is extremely rare or no one is talking about it.

I would not do it, your present setup should be more than enough for those 4:30am spirited runs.

can you out-drive the car yet?
do you hold a
''PRO'' driving lic?
have you raced at Daytona-lemans-sebring?
its a 650hp car,,
try turning off the ''NANNYS'' ,somewhere with lots of pavement
then get back to us,and tell us the cars not fast enough
all kidding aside, dont waste your warrenty, unless you've got $10k-20k to pay to fix it
and if you have any extra money ,just send it to me,i could always use $20k

Those that don't mod will say NO, and those that do will say YES. If you wanted to save money you would have a Stingray, but you chose to spend more for the Z. I believe in the American way of Bigger, Faster, Stronger. Do I need it no. No one needs a Z but they buy one. No one needs 800HP on the street but they have it. For some it is bragging rights. Most of it is bragging rights as I know of no one on the CF who is racing for $$$. People will call you foolish for doing it. Only you can judge the reward. Like a 5000 sq ft home, or a $100K boat, it is all about wants v needs.

Easy question to ask yourself: do you have the money to fix anything that goes wrong with the powertrain? For instance, the ediff can cost upwards of $5500 if it gets shot. That's at the dealership; maybe your local speed shop can do it/get it for less.
Don't know about the A8, but I'd guess $2K to fix and much more to replace. Engine? $$,$$$

i wouldn't unless you plan to add a different blower that pumps more air at cooler temps...
and i feel like there is still one more round of innovations that will hit these cars in the next 12 months that will make many of the current kits stone age.
Cooling is the name of the game, and there will be profound ways to make it occur very soon i believe.

Depends on what a few moments of pleasure are worth. It’s not worth it to me to risk a 5k bill for an extra 50-100hp that I can’t use to it’s potential. When my warranty is up I will add at least 200 though.

the phrase "you have to pay to play" was first used in 1744 when the first set of carbon fiber horseshoes came out and it still applies today.

I wouldn't do it..... But if I did, I'd go with a shop that offers warranty on their work. I think vengeance near me gives 1yr warranty

IMO have 700 WHP in this car is pretty much being a "Boss" on the street. If you really want that feeling go for it.. just make sure you have 15k+ set aside when things go kaboom. I know I'll mod mine to 700 WHP then drive like a grandpa..
But I'll make sure I'll have play money first..

Not to mention OP wants to void the warranty by only adding headers and a pulley lol
How much more rwhp will you gain, to justify losing that warranty? 60-75rwhp?
Is that worth possibly losing THOUSANDS, IF something major goes wrong during the rest of the warranty life that you now not have anymore because you modified the car?
Idk, you made the thread asking for opinions so we gave them to you. Looks like only a small few said go for it. And i agree too, if it wasn't for a car this expensive.
I would wait until warranty expires. But i bet when that time comes you'll want to upgrade anyway

I have been debating the same changes on mine, finally decided that giving up my warranty is just not worth it to me. I have had three Z's put mods on one have left the other two alone. I guess after messing with modded cars for years when I was younger I just enjoy driving them now and not having to work on them.
