I'm ready to pay to be the first customer to install your setup in my 2016 manual Z06/Z07 that I track at Laguna Seca and Thunderhill. I have added the GMPP secondary radiator 2 years ago, but your design looks much better. Let me know!

^ I appreciate your enthusiasm but this setup is really mean't for Autos. Tom - if I lived in the South and was about to hit a track day, I would totally validate this for you but alas it is not to be.

Yes, the combo cooler is designed for Auto's but I will be adding a newer supplement cooler for the manual cars.

I tested the stock GM TOC against my new compact model and I wasn't happy with the results. I was seeing about a 15 degree temperature increase in trans fluid, which some said would be ok but I'm not comfortable with that. I just need that cooler to be equal and I can more on to the ECT.

I got re-assigned to finish up a new core building station. I am finishing this up now and I'll be back on this in a week or two

As requested below, I changed the photo to define the components in the image.. Flat coiled material is feed into a fin machine and formed into fin. The cut fin is transferred to the stacker and dropped in trays. The fin batch is dropped into the core builder with the tubes and headers are installed. The assembly is then banded and furnace brazed in house. I'll post a video when this is finished.

Would you be willing to explain what the various things are in that photo, for us tech nerds?

Getting back to the development in process is the following concept. I added five more rows of tubes and fin (22% increase) to the core size. In order to fit this core in the same place I need to eliminate the fittings and tubes that took up about 2.5" of space. I am going to replace these with a custom aluminum brazed on manifold to stay with the original plug and play concept. The photo below is a photoshop creation to illustrate the concept. Once I get a couple of these made, I will get them back on the test stand and verify the heat rejection. I don't need to exceed the factory TOC, just need to match it.

It is really cool to see your shop! I am younger and don't have as much money as some of the other guys here but I still buy American whenever I can especially with car parts. It will save you in the long run!

Tom, still interested. Keep us posted. Ready to be a real world tester on my 2016 Z06 M7 at Thunderhill this summer. It gets 100*+ in June and July.

Regards,

Mike

Mike,
I'd be happy to have you try this out however, I noticed you did install the GMPP and that usually does the trick for M7 cars. The major issue seems to be the M8 and the high revs associated with the race mode. Did you still have faults with the GMPP installed?

Tom,

TL;DR-
I don't want to pull my front bumper to install your existing Oil Cooler. I should probably just do that.

The long story-
I typically track at Laguna Seca which is 60 miles from my house. The track is usually cool in temps, but has a 92dB sound limit. I have built a Laguna pipe so I can run full blast past the sound booth. On cool days(mid 60*-70*s), my car now runs about 220* engine coolant and 265* oil at the end of a 20 minute session. I do NOT get limp mode. The naturally aspirated Porsche GT3s pull hard throughout the session. For a $1,000, I am looking to keep the car as cool as possible.

At Thunderhill, the air temps are 95* to 105*+ in May-August. This track is 160 miles from my house, but the sound limit is 108dB so I can run unrestricted on the exhaust. Also, Thunderhill is a much faster track with more open turns. Here the car runs runs hot, 250*+ coolant temp and 280*+ oil temp when the ambient temps are above 90*. The car does not go into limp mode, but the power is really pulled about half way through a 20 minute session. I have logged the timing and lose all the advance and knock retard ramps up. I can run 100 Octane fuel to mitigate the knock and spark retard, but its $9 a gallon. The Z06 loves this fuel, but at 4 MPG it gets really expensive.

I can run Thunderhill in the spring and fall and Laguna Seca in the summer. The Z06 just performs a lot better, even if it is not in limp mode, when the temps are kept cool (sub 225*). For me, I am willing to spend $1,000 on a particular modification, provided it is not that hard for me to install. I can do an oil cooler install, if I don't have to pull the front bumper. If I have to pull the front bumper, I would rather outsource that job. If your new setup is not going to be available in the next month or so, I'll probably just buy your existing oil cooler and have it professionally installed.

Mike

No, don't do that. I'll get you something in another 3-4 weeks that will help. No bumper removal
