Default Dewitt Oil Cooler

looking at getting an oil cooler for my z06 when I do all the other work done on my car. I was just planning on ordering from Weapon x however their website only shows the no thermostat kit. So I was wondering how much if an benefit it is to have the thermostat, and if I were to go with one...Which one the 180 or the 212? I do a lot of highway pulls and in town driving. Summer heat can be upper 90's to lo 100* days. I don't road race or auto cross. It would be seldomly used for drag strip, 1/2mil, full mile, and a lot of spirited daily driving.

8119001E Engine Oil Cooling (EOC) Kit no thermostat -

8119001E-180 Engine Oil Cooler kit with 180 degree thermostat -

8119001E-212 Engine Oil Cooler kit with 212 degree thermostat -

Biggest benefit of the T-stat is to get the oil up to proper operating temp in a suitable amount of time. Front mount air-cooled oil coolers are typically too efficient for around town driving, and your oil will never see 200*. That's why OE uses the engine coolant to warm the oil. You'd want the 212 IMO.

Why do you think you need it? What have your oil temps been up till now? What year car do you have?

What mods are you installing and how much more average power (not peak) will your engine be producing?

I have 15 Z06 M7 with the Secondary Radiator installed and can run for 20 minutes of wide open throttle or near wide open throttle with speeds varying between 50 and 154 mph in ambient temps in the low to mid 90s. Typical coolant temp in mid 90 ambient temp is about 227 degrees with oil temp getting to 277. Those temps don't cause any problems. If your stock setup isn't getting higher than that I don't see how an oil cooler will help unless you are adding one hell of a lot of HP. Then you have the problem where you use that HP since most street/highway pulls I have ever seen are limited to a few seconds to a minute or so.

I daily drive mine, 16 A8 and don't have the oil therm, my oil still gets 190's to 200 in town traffic.

Bill,
I assume you never had an EOT fault and you probably wouldn't with the M7 but that is really why we created the air-to-oil kit. As you know, the A8 cars run much hotter due to some very high rpm shifting. The higher ECT leads to higher EOT and the later can fault out. The purpose of the air type EOC is two fold, first to cool the oil, and second to remove this heat load from the coolant. The EOC kit is not primarily designed to make the engine run cooler but the heat load from the GM brick has been eliminated.

I had asked for a build estimate from Joe @ Cordes, and he had the prospered one listed. However the Prospeed is $400 more expensive than the Dewitt Cooler. Plus I'm already running their HD Radiator so figured might as well run their oil cooler.

Most of my temps are low 200's when I am at the track, but have been as high as 240. That is with waiting between 30-45mins between runs as well. I haven't run over 1/2mile yet, but fully intend on doing the Texas mile next year. Mostly I would rather be safe than have an issue by trying to cut out a grand. I don't have a truck and trailer, and so I drive to all the events. I have had my car 8months now, and am just over 11,700miles. It is a 2018 M7, FWIW.

Are far as mods(I think this is everything) : Halltech TRIC, 103mm tb, 2300Maggie, built/ported Heads, Cam, e-85, Meth, 30%injectors, Cordes Expansion tank, MM catch, Dewitts HD Radiator, Weapon X HX, IW 18%OD, 2.6 griptech, 160* Thermostat, Plugs, Wires, Clutch, Corsa Headers, X Pipe, axle Extreme, and possible Valve Covers.

I have no idea what it is going to make or average HP. I hope it goes North of 860. To my knowledge nobody has done this extensive of a build with the 2300, so I guess maybe setting a record or something along the way

Last winter the coldest day that I drove the car was at 7 degrees, but I regularly drive in the low 30's to low 20's. Gotta love those seat heaters. Lol

Been trying to see if DeWitt's still offers the cooler with the thermostat, doesn't show available on the website. I called them direct and haven't heard back yet. Trying to take advantage of the sale they have going on.
