Default Had the Triple Flush done to my 5,800mi A8....Everyone Pre '18 should NOT WAIT

I don't drive the car much.. but when i do have the chance i am usually cruising somewhere around 75 80mph..

When my car was new on maybe 2 or 3 occasions i felt a vibration that shook the whole car at maybe 35 40mph getting back on the throttle at barely 20 30% (it was probably in 6th, in drive).. but on the Parkway, a smooth flat road, i would feel rumble strips ever so slightly now and again...

I chalked it up to my imagination as i've read DOZENS of threads regarding that exact feeling and everyone swearing that Z06's aren't affected by this issue (often)... Well, fast forward to Carlisle 2018.. on the way up about 150mi i noticed a shudder on the hwy in 7th and 8th in drive and from coasting to light throttle at that speed. I also noticed a little "bump" if you will in that same throttle/speed scenario.. i knew something was up... So when i got back i made the appointment to have the Targa Top weatherstrip replaced with the updated version per the TSB, the SC belt also per the TSB and asked for the flush..

I even went as far as to tell my dealer (who i trust with my vette as the Manager owns one and so does my vette tech who races his and is a long time member here but not active much) that if it needs the converter go ahead is what it is... My tech told me he has done dozens of trucks but on the vettes which have been several, the triple flush has done the trick. Last time i was there he had an 8spd taken apart and was rebuilding it (one guy i would take his rebuild over a factory reman any day) and he was telling me about the change in the fluid from the original to the "LV" low viscosity...

Also i had the volume compensator replaced (a little speaker grille in the driver's door panel near shoulder level) replaced as it was vibrating up a storm with even light radio volume when a bass note hit..

So i picked the car up today from the rear remote bay where nobody goes (i love this place) and everything was done perfectly.. radio noise ? GONE... weatherstrips? PERFECT...

Trans flush? driving down the road from the dealer it was almost as much of a difference as having my mag ride updated... the highway? like a DIFFERENT CAR when cruising...

Anyone who has one of these cars pre the new fluid change at the factory NEEDS TO HAVE THIS DONE as a precaution.... i implore you to not wait... I am hoping i got to mine before it did any damage to the converter but who knows.. i wish i didn't have my head in the sand... should've done it a while ago...

REMEMBER ---- IT'S THE FLUID THAT CHANGED... get the old fluid out asap...

PS.. had my 2016 Sierra 8spd Torque Converter replaced 2 weeks ago for the shudder at 25k miles.. that truck was a mess... the TCC would lock at 30mph and lug along like a manual in too tall of a gear then bang.. no flush for that one.. they pulled it and replaced it.. it was gone.

just thought i'd share my experience and i hope to save some members heartache down the road.. the Z06 is in 4cyl mode much less than the LT1 cars.. it takes longer to become noticeable so don't wait....

Thanks

When you bring the car in just tell them the TRUTH. My car was built before GM FIGURED OUT that the new trans fluid (low viscosity) cures any issues with the torque converters. You dont want to drive down the highway with the sensation of driving over rumble strips. Please address my issues.

the dealership you go to is key. The tech... is key.

there are plenty of members on here scattered throughout the country that have a great dealer and great techs that tend to their needs

this is where you find them

if you need dealership information for your area? post it on here

someone will respond I'm sure of it.

if you are in the tri-state area and can't find a good dealer that will just do the right thing? Bring it to mine.

like I said, stop by talk to the service manager face-to-face introduce yourself. A tip that Mike Furman gave me a while ago and he couldn't have been more right.

if you mentioned the issue and ask them if they've performed that bulletin and they look at you cross-eyed but they are open to investigating it? Give them a shot if youllike the look of their Tech (ask them who their Corvette specialist is or are) and obviously if you think they'll do the right thing by your car.

if they say something like they don't know what you're talkin about never heard of that don't bring it there.. of course if you find out afterwards you know of somebody who has already done so and they've performed this operation give them a shot..

another way to find a dealer near you would be to visit the full size truck forums and read their threads in relation to Silverado. Or the Camaro forum etc.

I bought my 2016 Sierra with the 8-speed in November 2015. It was built in October 15. from day one maybe not the ride home but a couple days later driving on the parkway I pulled over got out and rolled up the tonneau cover thinking what the hell is that vibration this brand new truck can not be this flimsy? It was right around 75 80 miles an hour it just had a terrible oscillation come and go. In hindsight identical to the vette. And it drove me insane almost made me carsick and everybody with the pickups was reporting similar vibration issues coming from everywhere.. mine never fit the exact mold of everyone else's though plus they didnt figure it lit yet.

I cannot believe this whole time it was the converter. But like other things, when they swapped the converter early on like they did on so many 8 speeds. they were only treating the symptom not the cause.

When I had my converter replaced a couple weeks ago in the truck I knew right then and there I wasn't going to joke around any longer and just get the triple flush done and over with hoping to save them having to tear the tear the Vette down.

Driving my Sierra on the highway now? its like a totally different vehicle.

I spent or moreso my wife, more than 2 and 1/2 years driving that truck jacked up for no reason. 25k mikes it failed.

my tech says the Vettes because they're much lighter, driven differently, and most of the time have way less miles put on them, are not that susceptible to an all-out failure and when I say all out I don't mean it doesn't move. It just operates in such a manner you feel like it's going to break at any moment.

I know plenty of people have had their stingrays torque converters replaced with the flush my tech says he's done numerous Corvettes and the triple flush has solved the issue but again in my area they may not be driving there Corvettes that many miles a lot of people in this tri-state area tend to treat them like they are precious jewels not cars to enjoy.

as for the weather strip TSB I believe it's pre 2017 Corvettes have the old weather stripping with Hollow ears. the new one has solid ars to stop it from Catching the Targa Top corners when you put it back in place.

the old style is very flimsy compared to the new one.

I'll reply if I find the TSB number again I'm sure it's not that hard or I'll just take a picture of my service order and put it on here.

the supercharger belt is another one I'll also put that on here..

Here is the RO

hope that helps.

waiting on an email back from someone at plant on the production week or close to it that they made the switch to the correct trans fluid. Or if anyone has evidence of that week or month feel free to share.

I asked my transmission brand quality manager and the fluid went into production the start of the 2017 model year.

Regards,
that's the answer I received today when I asked about when the new fluid went into the C7s. Hope that helps. And I trust that source as he's there and can get it from the horses mouth so to speak lol.

warranty look at the repair order. It's a bulletin. You have the rumble strip sensation. That's the complaint.

Yes. When you crave up the volume and bass is pounding everything vibrates except the volume compensator lol. If you put your hand over that little grille and it stops? It's that.

I've read other people's solutions about pulling the panel and taping everything not buttoned down and I'm sure that helps for the overall issue but for me this was like a fly buzzing in your ear. Problem solved.

I have a 2016 with less than 800 miles on it and my Warranty is going to expire soon, but I don't have the shake/shudder issue, do you think the dealer would still perform the TSB?

I would think the tranny is covered by the power train warranty which is longer.

It's covered under the 5 year powertrain warranty. But damn, almost 3 years old and 800 miles on the car? that's a shame.
