Default Air Intakes

Hello, New here..I purchased a 2016 Z06 with the Z07 package two months ago. I have been looking at the posts on here for about a week and a half now on Air Intakes. My question is when changing out an Intake which would be the Best one to go with. I see AFE, K&N, GM, BMS, Halltech, Varrom TCR7, Holley. So many to choose from. I will not be running at the track. Just looking for better performance. Thanks

The Halltech is proven to make the most power. Since your not tracking you’ll never use it on the street. The BMS is the most bang for the buck.

The GM Performance Filter/Air Box adds a decent boost plus, it also looks and fits good with no warranty issues!

Go with the BMS and call it a day. The difference between that and all the exotic CAI will be barely anything. Some people do like the other CAI as eye candy.

Stock airbox with highflow filter is all you need and even that returns to stock power level after a while if the car doesn't get a tune.

No it doesn't. I picked up 45 SAE RWHP with the Halltech, THREE YEARS AGO, it hasn't changed. Gains still there, not lost. That's an old wife's tale. Still on factory tune and it hasn't "learned out" the gain. My LTFT's are the same now as they were on the day it was modded.

45 rwhp? And all you did was dyno it? Have you dynoed it since?

We've gone through this periodically on this forum since the C7Z was introduced and the CAI's became available. There have been many dynos provided in a bunch of threads over the years. (you might want to do a search)
They vary between 35 and 55 horsepower for the CAI's.
Lot of factors like temperature and fuel but the CAI's make a bit more boost. Which we believe helps explain some of the large gains.
Of course, as with anything there many naysayers out there. To each his own.

Gotcha. I believe number so if there's proof I believe it. From what I've read though, a highflow filter is really all you need for most of the gain, no?

For what it’s worth the shop that I just had my Xpipe installed told me to get the Halltech. He wasn’t trying to sell me one either. Just told me to order one from the Halltech website. I’m going to use the BMS for now. However will most likely switch when I go with a bigger blower and tune.

I've done three major mods, dyno'd stock, then with the Halltech (it picked up 45 SAE RWHP), then put on the IW 9% pulley, now with both mods it made 70 more SAE RWHP, then I added the Norcal cat delete pipes and dyno'd again, making 93 more SAE RWHP than stock. Over the course of three+ years it has not unlearned any of the additional power.

I see. And you didn't dyno tune the car at all in between the mods?

No, didn't see the need. My final pull it made 673 SAE RWHP and 720 SAE RWTQ. The car on the dyno just before me was a stock 2019 ZR1 with an A8. It made 636 SAE RWHP and 660 SAE RWTQ.

I have heard the high flow filter gives much of this.
If you compare the size of the CAI intake ducting to the OEM ducting you should find it hard to believe a filter alone can provide as much flow as a properly designed CAI.

I honestly don't know so I will not comment on what the filter gains are.

I do know that the LT1 C7 and the LT4 C7 use the same OEM intake and filter.
Several CAI's claim a 10-15hp gain on a LT1.
If this is in fact true it means the factory system has some restriction at 465ish horsepower levels. (no surprise considering design goals and cabin interior noise considerations).
We also know the LT4 needs about 40% more air than a LT1.

Folks can draw their own conclusions.
