Default C7Z Forgestar F14 18/18 R888R setup

Instead of replacing the stock 19/20 tires, I decided to go with an 18/18 setup for better tire selection/traction. Not to mention cheaper replacement tires. I had trouble finding pictures of F14's in an 18/18 setup for our cars when I was looking, so I figured I'd post some pics if anyone was wondering what it looked like. My car is 99% a street car, and when they have one near me I'll take it to some roll races. I really wanted to avoid a drag radial if possible, so I figured I'd give the R888R's a shot first. I only have about 200 miles on this setup, but I LOVE the R888R's. I haven't had my car on a dyno, but I only have a CAI so it's not making a ton of power. But, the car is so much more fun to drive when I can put the power down. The tires do whine at highway speed, but I don't really notice it much. Unless you drive around with the windows up and radio off like a weirdo you probably won't notice either.

Also, big thanks to Josh at Get Your Wheels! I ordered this wheel/tire package from him and they came in right about a month after I placed my order. Wheels/tires mounted and balanced with zero issues.

Interesting. This is EXACTLY what I was saying in another thread. People are running the 19/20 boat anchor cast wheels, plus using ultra stiff sidewall (what little there is of it) run flat tires and then wondering why it is so traction limited on a 650 h/p 650 ft lbs torque car. Even more traction problems with the ZR1.

We never ran over an 18/19 wheel on our track oriented Vettes, and many either ran 17/18 or 18s all around. And of course, no run flat tires either. Do that, put a DSC V3 controller in, and then see if a fair portion of traction issues don't disappear. Of course you still need to heat the tires up, use some common sense, make damn sure you get a proper alignment (DSC has alignment recommendations that are nothing too crazy).

Probably will do something in this are with my M7 '19 Z. And I do not need to put Pilot Cups on my car - had those with the "painted on treads" for a while on my C6Z. Get caught in a heavy rain, and better get off the highway or get you speed down pretty low. Not good idea in North Florida! My stock wheels look real purty - but at 31 lbs per, and with doubtful build integrity (witness all the bent wheel threads) they are not best suited for one of the better sports cars in the world

Yep, that was my thinking as well. I'd rather not mess with 20's in the back...they look nice but that's about it. I lowered my car all the way on stock bolts, so I got an alignment and then threw on the new wheels and tires. Night and day difference from the stock setup, although the stock tires were in need of replacement anyway.

They are almost sexy looking. I put a set on my Viper and love them. Very sticky R compound tire. The car drives smoother, hooks better and handles better with the Toyo R888r tires. When I need tires for the Z, I will definitely go with these.

Can changing the wheel sizes from OEM create more problems for the traction control and stability control?
I thought I read somewhere that some guy was having all sorts of fits after changing wheel sizes with the traction control. It was constantly turning on at the track

I think if the rake and/or overall diameter of the tire is off dramatically is when things start to get screwy.

I have heard that as well but have only experienced it when the TPMS sensors were not installed on my track wheels. Car was not driveable due to the constant intervention of stability and traction control.

I haven’t really noticed any difference from stock yet, but I only have 250 or so miles on this setup. I have noticed that traction control comes on more often than I’d like it to, but that happened stock as well. With this setup, the tires are holding the power and traction control still comes on sometimes.

Drag strip/roll race guys...do you turn off traction control when you’re racing?

Yes.

TC off but stab on.

I "THINK" power is cut if you leave everything on and the car senses lost of traction, the computer will cut power to stop it from spinning. Someone may have to correct me if i'm wrong.

But if i know i'm going to "play", i'll only turn off TC. And keep everything else on.

In Vacaville I see, not too many C7Z06's around here. Norcal SS might have some 18's that clear CC brakes. On another note I'm local if you care to get together for a cruise or CNC.

I’m not 100% sure, but I could’ve sworn I read the Forgestar 18’s will not clear the CCB’s. I think the only 18’s that do clear are pretty expensive. At least compared to Forgestars.

Are forgestars strong? They are still cast wheels right?

I think they're called "rotary forged" which is obviously not as strong as real forged wheels but i think it's A LOT better than OEM, or at least better than the OEM wheels that were fitted to the Z's since everyone is having problems with those, and not so much with the grand sport guys.

If you're a real hardcore track guy, maybe it's best to invest in some really high quality forged wheels.

But for the occasional street guy, with some messing around here and there, i think the next step up from OEM is something like forgestars. Because they're stronger than OEM, and some of the wheels look a lot better than our OEM wheels, and plus you can get them in custom offsets and not deal with the STUPID DUMB WEAK offsets GM gave us from factory.
