Default Best track wheels / tires?

I want to get a set of wheels just for track days and light weight and durability are very important so forged wheels come to top of the list.

What size tires / wheels do you guys suggest for streetable set so that I can drive it to the track and what for slicks?

I prefer to hear from guys who track their cars

I'm interested as well, particularly those who have added the extra brake cooling ducts and cooling rings up front. What size track wheel set up are you running to clear the cooling ducts and cooling ring?

I run 18x11 up front and 18x12 or 18x13 in the rear. The ducts work with those wheels but the wheel blockers don't fit inside an 18 inch wheel. If I am running Hoosiers I run 315/30/18s on the 18x11 wheels and 345/35/18s on the 18x13 wheels. If I am running scrub Pirelli P Zero Slicks I run a 305/660/18 in front on the 18x11 wheels and 315/680/18 in the rear on 18x12 wheels. I have CCW C10s for the 18x11 and 18x13 wheels and the 18x12 wheels are Oz Racing wheels made for the C6Z (I purchased them from Tire Rack), however, it looks like OZ doesn't make them anymore.

Another vote for 18x11 front and 18x12 rear. You can run 18x13 rear but on my C7Z it contacted the upper control arm when the suspension unloaded and that eventually wore a groove in the UCA and I ended up replacing it. I bought Forgeline GA1R from Gerry at CW4L and it was a great buying experience. It was a great price, he called me back on Sunday to get the deal going, and was even able to help accelerate the delivery to meet a planned event.

Pirelli DH scrubs. 305/660-18F and 315/680-18R. I've been running them on C7 Z06s for a long time with good results but on the ZR1 they tend to get in to the fender grate. I have a set of 305/645-18 fronts on order to try them out.

Are those streetable or slicks? How are they compared to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 or if slicks then compared to Hooseir R7?

I totally agree.

I have Signature SV502 wheels... 18x11 front, 18x12.5 rear, all with appropriate offsets.
We autocross this car, so a lot of turning tight, on/off, suspension up/down......No rubbing whatsoever.

Those are true slicks. The data doesn't show much more lateral grip vs Cup2 but they are far more consistent through a session. The biggest benefit though is that if you buy scrubs they are 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of new MPSC2 or Hoosiers. My experience with Hoosiers was that they work well but lasted the least amount of time of any of the other options. I just bought a set of the 295/30-19 and 335/25-20 R7s to try out on the stock rims. If nothing else it gives me an option to have a 3rd set of track tires mounted without buying another set of 18" wheels.

The Pirelli scrubs are still my favorite though, I just ordered my 3rd pallet of them this year.

From your many posts on the forum you obviously have extensive track experience with Corvettes including the C7 model. Given all the "noise" on the forum about wheel issues I'm wondering if you have any concerns regarding structural integrity of the stock wheels, especially given the level of grip the Hoosier tire provide. Your thoughts on this?

Default Stock C7Z wheels are JUNK!!!

Guys! Do NOT use the stock a wheels for Tracking!! You may get away with doing a few track days before they give up the ghost which is bending & cracking!! These are cast wheels that should Not be on these cars! I'm speaking from experience, multiple cracks multiple bends all four wheels! Buy FORDGED WHEELS!!!

I don't think I can track the car too many times.cant afford it . I probably will track it two or three times, do you think that's okay? How many track days or sessions do you think the stock wheels can handle thanks. In hpde I am in white group for now and with a ZO6 I probably will go to intermediate group.

poor-sha, how did you make out with the r7’s on the stock rims? How was the performance and how did the wear compare to the cup 2 tires? If these last longer and perform as well as the cup 2 i may try a set on my spare rims. Thanks

I did about 3 on mine and have a friend that have done a few more before we switched to scrubs. I don't jump curbs but my wheels aren't cracked and any bend that they have, happened on the street.

Anyhow. We both run forgestar F14s 18x11 and 18x12 now.

Default Factory rims

My factory Z rims cracked from normal street driving! It was actually still holding the air with the crack, but when I got my second crack it started leaking air down over the course of two days it would be flat. I would not track or even drive with these rims at all!
