Launching M7 in the 9s
Good morning family..
My car is off to Vengeance Racing soon and upon getting it back, hope to be running 9s at the drag strip. I already have MT ET SS DRAGS for tires on top of this soon to be full build. I have been an avid user of my launch control and can pull 10.7s all day. I think its time to step up my game. Please answer if you have an M7 and currently run 9s. How are you guys launching?
Thanks in advance

Not quite stock
Im not quite stock but dont have too many mods either. I would just say the only 3 that matter is the AFE CAI, borla xpipe, and MT ET SS DRAGs

I can't speak from specific M7 Z06 experience but most any high powered, manual trans car will require you to slip the clutch to get the most effective launch. Launch control can help you be consistent but it won't give you the quickest time. A quick slip of the clutch will allow you to weight transfer, plant the power while keeping the RPMs up. You will have to find the sweet spot and get used to changing your clutch fluid after a long day at the drag strip.

Slipping clutch
thanks for the reply... the few times I launched it without the control, it smelled like I burnt the clutch.. you think I was riding the clutch too much on launch?

I'd have to get a good listen/view of the launch to really tell you. If you smelled it for a good while after the run, you probably did slip it a bit too much. A quick progressive release without dumping it is usually ideal but you don't want to ride it out too long/hard. Def give everything time to cool down sufficiently between runs. The clutch and fluid will thank you.

I run 9’s in a M7 (non Z06). You likely won’t get many, (if any) first hand accounts because there are only three C7 M7’s that I am aware of that broke into 9’s. It takes 800+ HP and negative DA to do it usually. You’ll need to have radials for sure, no launch control, and all nannies off. I used 18” wheels with MT ET Street SS 305/40/18 when I did my 9.92 pass at 140mph. That was with 850rwhp. Also, be prepared to start shattering differentials, spider gears, stub shafts, and axles. That comes with the territory of launching that hard.
^This, exactly. You have to find the sweet spot. Thats what being a good manual trans driver is all about!
Yes, you burnt it. It takes a LOT of practice to learn the car and the right launch method.

Congrats in the 9's!!
You had all nannies off?! Even stabilities ! so do you manually correct on the go while in full throttle?!?!? That's amazing I don't think I can do that.
Any idea how many torque the stock M7 Z06 can take up to? But stock Z with drag radials no problem go the the strip every month won't break anything?

Man ran into this post, now I finally understand why launching the M7 Z I can never get it to launch CONSISTENTLY, sometimes it will go sometimes it bogs, never had this problem with AWD, FWD, before I can usually launch them pretty well. Got the Z for more than 1 years now and I thought it's me but it's the computer. (I only drive it on the weekends) Was thinking about getting hoosier 315/30/18 with wheels but not sure how much they are going to help me. No wonder there are so few M7 in the fast list wish I had ran into this post earlier https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1590672356

I fly in tomorrow to see my car at Vengeance (M7 at 1050ish RWHP). They basically told me what other posters here have said; prepare to break stuff. I'm more focused on 1/2 mile but am curious to hear of your results.

I had them beef up what was applicable for what I plan to do. If I was running the 1/4 on the regular, I wouldve most certainly had them do a rear end and still may. I did axles and already had a monster triple disc.
My comment was more surrounding that running the 1/4 is very hard on any driveline (no matter what the upgrade) and be prepared to break stuff.
