This thread has been like heaven the last couple days. Its good to see I'm not actually crazy, and my ideas and understanding of physics are somewhat accurate. This place has given me brain damage in the past.
Lots of people can drop megabucks trying to go fast. My greatest satisfactions have come from trying to work a little smarter, and a lot cheaper, and getting better results.

Very interesting. I've been using those mufflers for about 15 years, on engines around 1000 horsepower. The glass packing can eventually melt or blow out, but Magnaflow has always replaced them free of charge.
Highly recommended,

i figure ill keep the x pipe cats, and maybe add one of these on each side (if there is room, have to look closer, maybe not)

Norcal, Does the x pipe cat quiet it more or this piece swapped for the x pipe cat? Has anyone ever had you install/splice the muffler into your downpipe?

I have many customers that just do main cat deletes and keep oem x pipe.
Below is what the stock X-pipe converter area looks like after cat removal.

I have tested 3 X-pipes on my stock (except for an aftermarket CAI) Z06 and here are my results in order from worst to best as far as 1/4 mile performance:

Worst = 3" 'catless' Corsa, I lost ET & MPH in the 1/4 mile so I sold it.

Middle = OEM stocker with the interior/guts removed, see pic. It was just a few hundreds slower in the 1/4 mile, maybe the converter housing caused some turbulence.

Best = Stock OEM as it came from the factory. I would try the aftermarket downpipes with the stock X-pipe converters because from my testing the stock X-pipe converters do not slow the car down at all and may take care of that exhaust odor.

After seeing what the main cat inside looks like I 'may' have to do a mod that looks stock and also does not create turbulence.

I suppose one could stick a straight pipe inside the gutted cat.....

Yes, it's doable but it would be on an angle and the tube size is different from the one end to the other (inlet is larger) and at the time I decided it was to much work. I have not been a ball of fire lately.

My mistake! the above statement concerns the gutted X-pipe cats. And yes on the straight pipe. There are a couple different ways I can think of to do the job, one of which entails some straight pipe seal welding.
