2017 1LZ vs 2019 1LZ - Major differences?
Hey Team!
Quick question. I've found an amazing deal (to me) on a 2017 1LZ A8 Z06 with crazy low miles (under 1000). Since I've been looking for a new Z as well, I was wondering if there are any major differences between the 2017 1LZ and the 2019 1LZ. The car I've found has factory Nav and PDR. Your input or direction to a comparison chart of some sort is appreciated.
Thanks!

I won't say Major differences because they both have the upgraded cooling components and share nearly all identical parts however the 2019 does share some ZR1 components like expansion tank and couple other parts but they are interchangeable with the 2017. Also on the 2019 you'll already have the magnetic ride update ($350). Additionally you may want to check that the 2017 has the latest update computer flash Service Bulletin #17-NA-264. Other than that the differences are minimal IMO.
If you are getting a great deal on the 2017 you will easily save enough money to offset the few updates without paying retail for the PDR/NAV and car. The PDR is a great option that I would make sure I got. Sometimes I wished I would have held out and bought my 2017 used to save some money but you can't go wrong with either. The 1LZ does miss out on some creature comforts but if that doesn't matter to you, then go for the 2017. Hope that helps.

Also, the 2018+ got several new data channels in the PDR. Yaw rate, IAT, ambient air temp, and suspension movement are the ones I remember. It appears to have been a running change in 2017 though as my late year 2017 had it. If you don't plan on doing data analysis on PDR data this probably isn't important.

Thanks guys - this helps. I'll be moving from a 2015 1LT M7 convertible. My 'vert has PDR and Nav, but no mag ride or the other nannies you get with a 2LT or higher. For me, HUD, PDR, and Nav (although I plan on using car play all the time) are the must-haves in the Z. I don't plan on ever tracking the car, I just like having the PDR/video available.
The car I'm looking at is a 2017 Torch Red 1LZ with 958 miles on the clock. The car has chrome wheels (don't shoot me, I'm a chrome guy), carbon ceramic brakes, PDR, Nav, and is an Auto. The current asking price is $68,900. Will probably keep the car for 3 or 4 years before moving to a C8.
I'm looking at two other 1LZ 2019's that are going for between $73,xxx (M7) and $75,xxx (A8), both with PDR and Nav.

There are other threads floating around on this topic. Supposedly the 19's get a few things in common with the ZR1 such as, if I remember correctly, higher capacity fuel pump, larger radiator, stronger gears in the rear diff, stronger rear upper control arms. Also, the 18's and up got a little better track performance gauge setup with digital readings.

2017 3LZ to 2019 3LZ is where the most difference will be seen! Details like new gloss carbon dash, comps seats carbon steering wheel, suede wrapped dash, door handle and few other stuff. plus the low side ZR1 pump, control arm, expensation tank, radiator, PDR new readout! All in all, its a lots!!!!

If the HUD is a must have for you, I'm pretty sure you have to get at least a 2LZ. Aside from that, I would say go for the 17 as the depreciation is ABSURD once you drive it off the lot. 10x worse than any other car. I got my 2016 Z used and it was less than 2 years old with under 5k miles. Sticker on it was $93k and I got it for $64k. I've never seen another car drop like a stone in value once it becomes "used". It seems to stablize after that, so the 17 is going to give you the most value.

hmmmm. weird the HUD only was an option on the 2LZ when I looking. Anyway, the HUD definitely doesn't come automatically on the 1LZ and it does on the 2 and 3. Also you can't get PDR without nav (the 3LZ comes with PDR by default). The other differences are yes the heated/ventilated seats, auto dimming driver mirror, the "upgraded" sound system and homelink by default. I can't remember if it's just an option on the 1LZ or not. I don't think that piece of advice is applicable to this particular decision. They both have identical options, it's just a matter of used or new, with the difference being cost savings vs shiny and untouched. No "most car you can afford" situation here.

When people go on and on about the depreciation of buying new, why don't they talk about the huge risk of buying used? You have no idea what has actually happened to the car even with 1000 miles. Don't even talk about Carfax because we all know that's not reliable with people not reporting things. Just saying you have to consider both sides or you're just deceiving yourself.
