Default Changing out M7 Trans Fluid Recommendations?

Hello all,

I am going to be changing out my transmission and diff fluids this week and need some advice on what to put in there.

My trans gives me this issue with 1-2 when cold and I feel like i need to Neutral it before entering 2 so it is smooth. Sometimes it locks out or might slightly grind into 2 if I don't when cold.

I see people putting in Amsoil Torque Drive, ATF, also Redline D4 in the Trans.

I have no idea for the differential. I currently use Motul for the engine oil.

Can you guys chime in please.

Default Fluid changes

What I did mine I use red line in my manual transmission and I use the GM differential fluid only because has a right amount anti-slip for the clutches almost four courts for the tranny and just about 3 for the differential and when I drain my fluid out we only got two quarts out so good thing we did that it was one quart low from the factory

Most folks who changed it to Redline D4 have reported better experience with 1-2 shift. D4 is in compliance with OEM specs so should have no impact on the warranty. I plan to flush the factory fluid with this one in spring (I have 1-2 notchy shift issue).

So I’m getting a lot of answers on the Redline D4 fluid, I ordered a G off amazon but don’t think it’ll be enough, I also ordered 2G of the Amsoil torque drive which I see a lot of people also using. I see @Weapon X selling the amsoil so I’m somewhat leaning towards that. Also a lot of c6 owners which have the similar trans are using the amsoil. Can anyone else chime in on this ?

Subscribing. I have been wondering the same thing about Amsoil, I use amsoil in everything. I was going to put amsoil ATF in my M7 trans and Severe Gear in the rear diff this winter.

I used Amsoil Signature ATF per the Amsoil representative's suggestion. I asked him about using Torque Drive and he said the Signature was a better choice. To be honest I don't know what the differences between the two are but I figured he should know what he is talking about. I held off changing my shifter until after I changed the fluid to see how much of a difference the fluid change had on the 1-2 cold shift. It was much improved but not completely eliminated. A couple of weeks later I installed an MGW shifter. Now the problem is almost non-existent. I do have to say that I never drive the car below 40 F so I can't say if the problem has been eliminated in very cold temperatures.

I have had good results using Redline D4 in the transmission. That being said, I go 1 to 3 until warm. I used the GM OEM fluid in the differential. I got both on Amazon at a reasonable price. Installing the MGW shifter has also improved the shift feel making the whole process feel more precise. All things considered it is not the nicest gearbox for silky smooth shifting. FWIW I have owned many manual transmission cars in my 50 plus years of driving.

Default Differential fluid

I would use a recommended GM fluid in the differential because it has the right amount of anti-slip in it if you have a problem with differential GM cannot deny your claim but if you use a different brand they may tend to blame it on that

I track mine and use amsoil. First change I did not add the anti slip but did this last change. I change the rear yearly and just did the tranny a few weeks ago.

lot smoother shifting.

My friend sells amsoil uses it in all his cars and has a variety of old high mileage cars which impressed me.
