Time for a change, ZL1/1LE or C7Z?

I went through this myself when the 1LE first came out. The ZL1 1LE is definitely going to be slower on a road course than a Z06 and harder on consumables due to the extra weight. I've only driven a gen 6 SS 1LE on track and to be honest it drove very much like a Stingray. In the end, I can only think of 3 reasons to buy the ZL1 1LE over the Z06, all of which are perfectly valid:
- You're a Camaro guy.
- You want a back seat.
- It's cheaper.
If you want to nerd out on the differences I did a data dive on YouTube comparing the Z06 and a ZL1 10-speed on track.

Thanks for all of the info. I love the look of the ZL1/1LE from the front, but really like the Z06 from the sides. The back seat doesn’t matter much to me at all. I have never used the back seat in any of the 3 5th gens I have had. Price is where it gets interesting. A brand new 1le, or a used z06. I wonder how the C7 values will be affected when the c8 is released?

Value will hold where it currently is IMO... Low 60 over time for a used Z... If you believe the hype, a M7, V8 front engine, rear wheel drive... May be the last edition of this combo. Which would drive value up.

I think the values of the c7 will not be affected by mid engine it will be a more expensive car. The c7z pulls hard away from a ZL1 above 100mph we have seen videos from a member at auto club speedway where speeds go over 160mph it’s not even close.
to me it’s a price thing. If you can afford a c7z, get it!!

I recently had to make the same decision, the plan was to get a Zl1 1le and it would be my first manual car (I just love how the car looks), when I test drove it the suspension was not "harsh" but it was just really bouncy, I think the tires also had a big impact on the ride and you can definitely get a better ride with different set of tires if for DD which was what I was going to do, before buying the camaro my friend recommended I try the vette and it felt more comfortable and more spacious to me even with the Z07 package so then I bought a Z06/Z07 but man the gear box in the camaro felt soo nice and tight and I really enjoyed it alot in the test drive even though I never had a manual car before. I would be lying if I said I dont have a small regret that I didnt go with the 1le, every now and then I check to see if there is a blue one near me at the right price to maybe swap but havent really made up my mind 100 percent. So the moral of the story is go with whatever car you feel you would really love and the car that keeps pulling you back to look at it, dont rush your decision or you'll regret it.

Lol. Because driving that ZL1 1LE around causes kidney damage.

I test drove the ZL1 1LE this last summer and also a ZL! with the auto. I found the 1LE to be brutally stiff on the road and I was switching back and forth in all the modes. The ZL1 auto seemed more compliant but I attribute that to the Multi-Matic shocks(they are works of wonder found on super cars 3 times the price) in the 1LE. It makes for world class track car but I couldn't see myself and my wife using it as a DD. I opted for a brand new 2017 Zo6, 3LZ with 7M. I traded in a 2014 on it and I really enjoy the safety of being able to see out of the Z more clearly than the Camaro. At the time the $73000+ Camaro was being offered for $68-69K. Now you say they're around $62-63K.
If it helps, a local Chevy dealer owner tracks many of his cars and used to track a 2015 Z28 but replaced it with a new 1LE and from what I've heard has put down some hellaciously fast laps at a local track. I mean mind boggling.
If you want a track car, and the stiffness of the suspension, the lack of room in the rear seats and visual sightlines are not important, go with the 1LE but opt for the track package as you won't find many to touch you.
