Grand Sport traded for Z06 - (Ride quality difference)

Melting Slicks
i agree with the Conti Extreme Contact Sports. We put a set on the wife’s GS and they are great. I will put a set on my Z06 when it needs a new set of shoes. We drive year around in Mississippi with very little snow or ice and leave the vettes in the garage on those few inclement days.

I have not see this and it explains a lot. Thanks.
Thanks, I'm pretty sure I am going with the AS3.. Do they still hop across the driveway like the he stock tires? I understand that the AS3 are still a run flat and didn't know if this was a characteristic of the run flat or not.
I'm just totally happy that now I know that these issues are not specific to my car. I was thinking I may have traded for the wrong car. Now I know she just needs a little TLC..

From the owner's manual:
Tire Chatter/Hop
When driving at slow speeds and in
very tight turns, the vehicle may
have tire chatter/hop. This is normal
and the vehicle does not require service.

Burning Brakes
Definitely agree with this. My 2016 Z07 which I bought this year still had the cup tires (new) when I bought it with 6,100 miles. The car felt nervous over anything but very smooth pavement. I pulled the cup 2 tires after 1 week and went with new MPSS's, huge improvement. Next week I had the new C7 suspension software installed and the car aligned to the DSC street spec, another noticeable improvement. I am in the process of installing a new DSC suspension controller and I expect this will also be a big improvement in both traction control and ride quality on my Z07.

Tramlining. you might be able to remedy it with an alignment - which you should get an alignment anyways - since corvettes are known to have shitty alignment from the factory.

I had a 2015 base Stingray couple and upgraded to a 2019 Z06 (not Z07). The Z06 in touring mode rides smoother. The handling is no comparison; tires on each were the same super sports.
The noise inside is less (probably due to the 2019 being a convertible) and the exhaust is definitely louder on the Z06. Just miss the backfire from the Stringray on full throttle upshifts which is hard to get on the Z06 under normal driving due to the huge amount of power not letting me floor it as much as I want (especially until late Spring).

But I decided to stick with run-flats. I started thinking about how it would suck to be stuck on the side of the road (even worse at night) in the middle of nowhere or in some crappy area or on the side of the freeway with cars flying by at 75 trying to mess with a repair kit and/or trying to figure out where a tire is leaking from (not always obvious). It's much easier to just continue driving until you get to a tire shop or your destination.
The other possibility is that your repair kit might not be able to get the leak to stop & then you're stuck waiting for who knows how long for a flatbed. Even though most people don't get flats very frequently I didn't want to deal with those kind of possible scenarios. YMMV.

Yes, they are not run-flats and. yes, it's smart to carry a repair kit AND a small compressor. The Conti's are a great tire and made a big difference on my 2016.

As others have said, the tire choice is selective. I had MPSS and switched them to Cup 2s. The Cup 2s have a much stiffer sidewall and ride firmer (and make a bit more road noise). I wanted the Cup 2s b/c my car goes to the track on occasion and I like a tire I can drive on the street and that holds up ok at the track too.
You mentioned the DSC controller -- they have different tunes for it, including a "soft" setting that can be used when the car is in tour mode. With the DSC and the softer setting in tour mode, the car is a bit more "floaty" and certainly rides well on the street.
With the DSC and Cup 2s I think the ride on the street is acceptable. With the DSC and MPSS I'd expect it to be even better.
If you are looking to improve the ride, two things to do: (1) get the DSC controller and have them program the tour mode so it rides a bit softer; (2) consider switching the tires to MPSS (or the other choices as recommended by others).

In Feb I bought a new 2017 Grand Sport 2LZ, my first Corvette and simply love the car. Fast Forward to this week I traded it for a Used 2017 Z06 3LZ with Z07 package, couldn't resist the deal.. Z06 car has 780 Miles on it, the Grand Sport I traded had 7,000.
What I have noticed in the little time I have drove this Z06 , which is about 2 hours, is that
1. it doesn't seem to ride as soft.
2. The road noise inside the car seems louder.
3. A couple times just driving on a straight road the front left tire seemed to jerk the car left. - (Normal Throttle Cruising Tour Mode) Maybe the tires following the road?
4. The exhaust note is a little different and loder. - (This I like)
My Grandsport had Pilot Super Sport ZP tires and the Z06 has Pilot Sport Cup 2 ZP, I wanted to know if this is normal behavior for a Z06? I am planning on installing a DSC Sport when the weather warms up as I have read that these to wonders for the suspension.
Thanks.

i bought a new z07 and drove it 700 miles home, all interstate. I ordered A/S 3+ ZP's and put them on immediately and then had my free alignment done. i must have pried out over 100 embedded stones from the gumby Cup2's and several pieces of embedded metal from the tires before I put them in storage. And what stones they do not absorb they throw out on your undercarriage, the sideskirts are great stone deflectors. the new shoes are a great tire for the street. i'm sure the cup2's are the best tire for the track, but verts without a roll bar don't be welcome there.

Congrats....GM has a suspension upgrade software package if your car has Magnetic Ride....Runs from 135-350 to have it downloaded (My dealer only charged 135.00
because it took less than an hour to download....You will notice much improved ride comfort for starters.....Michelin has an all-season tire for these cars....I put on a
set and that also improved ride quality....If you are not tracking the car, that is.........
