On the verge of buying a new Z06
How has the A8 been for you drivers? I'm still on the fence. Don't want the A8 if it has been troublesome on the Z06. Any other things to be aware of would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ton of complaints with A8 & the dreaded "SHUDDER", etc. Look in the search Thread box top right of page. Seems to be mostly Stingrays versus Zs. In the great scheme of things (% wise)I don't know how many have failed. You will always hear complaints before the Hot Damn, I love this A8! But from the posts with problems it does seem to be a long & sometimes fruitless journey to get them 100% fixed. Supposedly the Range device (prevents A8 from going into V4 Mode) keeps the tranny safe. I don't know (M7) just repeating what the majority here have sworn by. Do your research here first in Thread search & stickies.

I think the majority of problems were with the torque converter and specifically the factory fill oil. My 2017 Sierra truck had the problem and a torque converter oil change with the new oil fixed it. I do know that some converters had to be replaced but I think the problem has been resolved. I wouldn't be concerned about the auto at all. My ZR1 is an A8, my first Corvette auto in years and with 5600 miles it's all good.

I bought a new 16 Z after having a 2009 Z for eight years. I went with the A8 and would do it again! I did experience some of the shudder issues but it was addressed by the local dealer. They said if I had any issues, bring it back. They also discussed that GM is to have a permanent fix the first quarter of 2019. I never feared a failure it was more of nuisance than anything else. Again, I am an A8 fan. If you decide you want to track the car, a later model or a M7 is probably a better choice. Love mine and have no intention of replacing it anytime soon.

My 2016 Z06 A8 has been great. 6,000 miles with no problems with anything. Great driving, great handling, exciting car.
Plenty of power to have fun with. Added an AFE cold air intake and Tony Mamo throttle body - good amount of added horsepower for relatively little cost. Wrapped both cats and put fins on the existing factory oil cooler, and wrapped the exhaust pipes that pass by the auto trans.
Can’t beat the car fon a bang for the buck basis. Considering that I can’t use the existing 700+ hp in New England, and I don’t track the car, no reason to buy a ZR1 for double what I paid for my car as I couldn’t benefit from the few extra horses anyway.

I've got just under 22,000 miles on my '16 Z06 with the A8 and absolutely love it. I did change out most of the fluids around 2,000 miles and have had no issues whatsoever.

I've gone through the shudder problem with my '16 and it's now fine. Yes, there are a bunch of gripes about it on the forum but considering there's a few thousand out there without any reported problems, I think it's not the end of the world. Despite having had to deal with it, the car is still a blast and I wouldn't hesitate to go A8 again. The problem was identified and a fix was made. Get your ZO6 and enjoy it.

Thanks for all the responses. You can see my signature that I have a A8 presently on a Stingray. I didn't know if it was the same version on the Z06. That is really what I was getting at. I have 85,000 trouble free miles on mine. In fact it is the best automatic I have ever had. I was just trying to find out if how it behaves on a Z06. If there were the same percentage of issues on it in the Z06, and we don't know the percentages, I would more likely go with a manual. Makes no difference to me. I like both.

I had a 2016 Z with a manual 7 had no problems traded it in for a 2019 manual 7 and no problems with that one either. If I feel like I have to drive an automatic I can either get in my Lexus Silverado or Mercedes no automatic problems in any of those.

No problem with either of the Z06s, A8s I have owned. Ran 10s in both, stock. You won't see that with 3 pedals lol, at least on a consistent basis.

I have a 2017 Z06 Auto, and a 2017 Grand Sport Auto. Granted I only have less than 5000 miles on each of them but I drove them the last 2 summers with absolutely NO ISSUES. The cars were both flawless and not a single even small issue. I hammer them every chance I get. As a long time PDK and multiple dual clutch car owner I must say the 8 speed auto is slow in manual mode in comparison. It is not too slow to be enjoyable in manual but auto mode is where it's at just like the PDK. I have experienced no shudder in my cars.
I love my C7' s BUT I do prefer to drive the Grand Sport over the Z06.........

I love my C7' s BUT I do prefer to drive the Grand Sport over the Z06......... My Z06 was 100k OTD and if I had to take just one I would take the Grand Sport and never look back. My 2cents. I plan on trading my Z06 for the new C8.....
