Trade up to GS or Z06?
#21
I don't like Porsches. I think they are ugly. The RS5 is on my list of cars to investigate. As is the C63 AMG. We owned a CTS-V years ago and it was one of my favorites but the current generation is really expensive. Maybe an M2 or M4. I still really like my Corvette. I wish I could just put memory seats in and be done.
I honestly would pick the CTSV over every other car you mentioned, regardless of the garbage trans.
The V just has so much more style over everything else. Plus LT4. And who can pass that up? lol

Interesting thread as I’m considering a GS or Z06 manual. If the C8 was expected as a manual I’d just buy one and risk year one whoas but I want a manual. Anyway, leaning heavily to a Z. I just remember thinking how much more power it had over the GS in normal RPM driving ranges. I’ve thought up to my last test drive that the only difference was the supercharger and therefore more power but the Z feels and sounds like a different car. For me, the Corvefte has some rawness in the driving experience to it that the Europeans used to have but have polished a bit too much for me. I’ve driven 911s and find them (except the GT3) boring. Only my E92 M3 with 8,300 revs is entertaining. The new BMWs are faster and more polished but I like the driving experience of my “old” one. I keep thinking about the Z driving experience. It’s really a great car and unlike much I’ve driven. More than anyone needs but as some have pointed out, any Corvette is.

Yes, the Z06 is worth it, UNLESS you plan to track the car, ironically. If you want to track it, get the GS. For the street, absolutely get the Z. The massive amount of low-end torque is meant for street fun (not racing, just spirited launches I mean), and not the track.
With 650lb-ft of torque its a completely different car than the GS, I think. I like the GS just fine, but it's always been a detuned Z to me. Which is a good thing for track management, but I miss the torque!
If you can find one, take a look at the E-Class coupe with the 63 series motor. Much more expensive, of course, but the S-Class S63 AWD is an amazing car!

1. Best of luck with the treatments.
2. Based on your thoughts about finite time, don’t set yourself up for regretting you didn’t seize an opportunity.... however:
3. YOU and your husband need to just drive both and make your own conclusion.

Respectfully, I could not disagree more. Getting in a Z51 after owning a Z06 was completely underwhelming both on the track and the street. I would argue that the LT1 and LT4 are both underutilized on the street however the LT4 is exponentially more fun and capable on the track. The Z06 is superior to the GS on the track in all out performance. The GS is obviously still very competitive and a very good value.

I have nothing to contribute other than saying I'm glad you caught the cancer early. Good luck with your decision.

I am not looking for S class Mercedes. I want a smaller, sporty car with some luxury. I don't love big luxury sedans. The AMG GT is too expensive. I might be able to talk my husband into going a little above budget but the AMG GT and the Aud A8 will be much much too expensive. I need to keep it under $90K.

Yes, the Z06 is worth it if after test driving you find that the GS isn't fast enough for you. I'd recommend at least the 2lt. I've got the pinnacle 3lt, and love all it's upgrades. If you're driving your present C7 at it's limit of fast, and youre craving more? Then go directly to the Z06. The GS, won't be fast enough for you. I agree that quality of life is very important, esp. when you can afford to buy what you want. Good for you! I'm right there with you!

If you wait a bit, you can get some good deals, especially if you let the first owner take the depreciation hit, then decides to trade it at under 5k miles. You still have a brand new car with warranty.

18 CTSV for 83k with under 3k miles.
The deals are out there, if you're willing to be patient and wait for a good deal. Which makes sense since you're not even sure what car to get.
Winter does do that to us. We just search for stuff we wanna buy. Unfortunately in most cases it's only a phase and most people never end up buying. It's only a dream lol.
Don't make it a dream, make it a reality.

Z06 3LZ TR CONVERTIBLE SEEMS LIKE A GOOD CHOICE TO ME!

There is only one used CTS-V under $85K near me. There are a ton of them for around $100K. I have a problem buying a $90K used car.
I may buy something and I may not but it won't be because of winter. Winter around here is pretty nice.

It's still an '18 model with a full warranty, minus the 20% depreciation that someone else took the hit on.
Anyway it seems like you're probably not going to buy anything even mentioned but hey, it's a good discussion.
We went from GS's and z06's to AMG's and porsches lol
It's good to dream.

Whatever you do - DO NOT test drive a Z06 unless you intend to buy one. It will ruin you.
A GS or Z51 is simply not the same after the Z06.
Same goes for the ZR1.

I made that mistake. Otherwise the GS/Z51 would have been just fine.still trying to convince myself that the GS is enough car

But the price gap between the Z/ZR1 is substantial. So even though someone test drives a ZR1, his bank account might not allow him to get it, even if he wants to lol.
If the ZR1 drops to below 100k, then that's the bargain of the century.

3k miles is barely used. You're discounting the car 20% for someone to drive 3k miles and trade it back because they didn't like it/can't afford it.

The CTS-V discussion is moot because around here there aren't a lot of them (new or used) in the sub $90K range. Most of the new ones are over $100K and there is only one on the used market within 50 miles of my house. It is being offered by a less reputable dealer and I just can't spend that much money on a used car from a dealership with a bad reputation. I could do it for a beater but not for a pretty expensive car. If I run into one on the used car lot of a reputable dealer I probably would consider it but there just aren't many out there around here. The dealers load them up so that the sticker prices are astronomical. This is typical: Sheehan Cadillac
I appreciate ALL the input I have gotten here. This is a great forum full of helpful people and I appreciate the input. It helps.

I test drove the LT1 (they would not let me test the Z06) and also was not too impressed as my old modded Trans Am WS6 was equally as fast. I had my mind set on the Z06 but was worried about the "extra" power. I can tell you it was the best decision to choose the Z06. Even with the so called unusable power, nothing touches it on the street (from my experiences). There are many Z06's to choose from at great prices now. I don't trust the C8 yet - as I would need the higher powered options if I was to go that route and check it out in a couple years. I would look at the other brands mentioned but the Z06 gets the looks and a hoot to drive, no matter what your skill level. Best of luck to you !
