Center cap color modification
Hi all, I’m a new owner to a C7 Z06 in Long Beach Red with chrome Z06 wheels. I just haven’t enough time to drive it, but having lots of fun getting to know the car and doing some minor upgrades like replacing the chrome multi-spoke wheels with new pearl nickel colored wheels (I have the chrome ones for sale if anyone is interested).
I decided to change the center cap color to yellow as well. I couldn’t find any instruction to take apart the center caps so I thought I share my own experience.
1. Remove the center caps, preferably when the wheels are off and the caps pushed out from the back.
2. The center caps are 3-piece deal: plastic grey mounting plate, chrome metal logo ring, and colored base plate.
3. All the components are held together by plastic “claw” pins and using light pressure with needle nose pliers will free them up.
4. Clean all the components with dish washing liquid.
5. Here you can either paint your base plate or apply pre-cut colored vinyl to the base plate.
6. I ordered yellow precut vinyl and applied them. The key is to use a little rubbing alcohol to slide and center the vinyl, and a heat gun or blow dryer to soften the vinyl and apply finger pressure to vinyl and base plate. Use a credit card to apply light pressure to the crease areas.
7. Re-install the 3 components back together, and snap back onto your wheels!
