Hi
I have a 2019 z06 manual transmission. And I am reall fed up with the CAGS “feature”. <rant> It is a manual car, I should be able to control what gear I want. That is the whole point. I know they did it for fuel efficiency. If so, they should have only enabled this feature in ECO mode </rant>
My question is has anyone used the following mod? Does it work well? Any adverse effects on the car or other issues? Like check engine or warranty issues? Is it hard to install?

I think it works in a sense that I doesn't lock u out of 2nd and 3rd but the light still comes on.
A lot of people have complaints here about corvettemods though. I've only ever ordered center cap vinyl film and it did take a while to get to me but it eventually got to me (took about 2 weeks I think).

I have a '17 Z06 M7 and never have been forced into 4th gear.
You can fake it out since you are going slow by hesitating a split second in neutral. That seems to turn it off although I do see the DIC message. Try shifting slowly going into 2nd gear while going slow.

I also was wondering if the bypass was available for the C7. I had one on my C5 and C6. I told a Corvette Tech I know that I was going to be looking to put one on my Z. He said just use the accelerator pedal.

The CAGS bypass has been around for quite a few years and is bullet proof. I had the dealer install one in my '16 M7 C7 Z06 before i ever took delivery of it. They are readily available at numerous locations. My only advice would be not to by a cheap one off of eBay. I bought mine from Summit Racing and it cost something like $25....it worked perfectly. Get one, regardless of what you hear....you'll be happier in the long run!

I’ve owned 2 Vettes. A C6 and now the C7 Z06 both manual . I had both of them installed with the CAGS eliminator . Best 20 bucks ever spent. Don’t get too upset over this feature as it’s to avoid the 1500 gas guzzler tax ., it’s very easy to install, took me 10 min with a 2 jacks

the part that this video doesn’t show is that the plug is actually located a little bit on the top of the trans ans it’s covered by a round foiled covered sleeve and mat take a bit of time to remove

Lol . Almost , but the most time consuming part was to remove the connector from the foil sleeve because I have fat hands . Once I pass that , it’s cake

1. Speed from 15 - 19 mph
2. Light throttle like you would have following another car that isn't accelerating quickly
CAGS can be avoided by shifting to 2nd gear before 15 mph or after 19 mph or by being slightly aggressive on the throttle like you would be in normal traffic not heavy traffic. Follow those rules and you will never have it happen to you again.
However, if you forget there are two quick ways to adjust. When you feel the shifter going from 1st to 4th let it start to move into the gate for 4th gear but just shove forward and pull it into second. The other way is as soon as the shifter moves to the 3/4 gate (it automatically does this because the transmission is set up to center the shifter) just do a slight push forward into the 3 gate but not all the way and pull back into 2nd. Once you are adept at this you can make a quick wiggle of the shifter in less than a second extra time than it would take to make the shift from 1 to 2 in a normal manner.
Use the money you would spend on a CAGS Eliminator gadget for 10 gallons of gas at $1.99 per gallon.
I have been driving Corvettes with CAGS since I took delivery of my 97 in May 97 and haven't found CAGS to be an issue. In those almost 22 years I have probably had it activate 30 times.

On my M7, only once in a while do I feel the 1-4 shift activate. Feels like it just won’t go into 2nd. As soon as I feel it I just stop pulling into 2nd (just ease up on the pressure) and then re-pull it right into 2nd. It’s never actually made it into 4th.
Doesn’t take much time at all and is second nature now. Don’t really feel the need to install the eliminator now. I guess I short shift in traffic and when I’m getting on it, well I guess I’m over 19 mph...

Don’t care what all the naysayers “opinions”are. Then there are all the, speed up, slow down, shift to 4th, etc. BS: Get this as I & hundreds of others have & be done with. It’s simple to install & you’ll never have look at the DIC again. Yes, the info still pops up but it doesn’t matter anymore.

I bought this one off of
and it has performed flawlessly. Just make sure to install it in the correct position. I've read about several people installing at the reverse lockout and not being able to get into reverse. They use the same connector. I bought some heat resistant tape from Advance Auto and wrapped the exposed wires after I put the insulated cover back in place as an extra precaution (I'm a little **** when I work on my cars). The connector is very close to the exhaust. It's a very easy install and you won't regret it. Good luck.

You must be dong a lot of driving in slow heavy traffic. That is what usually causes CAGS to activate. The rules for CAGS activation are:
1. Speed from 15 - 19 mph
2. Light throttle like you would have following another car that isn't accelerating quickly
CAGS can be avoided by shifting to 2nd gear before 15 mph or after 19 mph or by being slightly aggressive on the throttle like you would be in normal traffic not heavy traffic. Follow those rules and you will never have it happen to you again.

Even if it avoidable, it seems wrong. It is about correct manual driving behavior. The Z06 is not the only manual car I drive. I also own an Aud RS4, which is my Z06’s winter gear
. And 30 years of manual driving experience. It isn’t that easy to switch. I especially run into it in parking lots.
