I can tell you that any vinyl laying next to real carbon is going to look different up close. From about 5 feet or more the difference becomes less noticeable but the depth just does not exist with vinyl carbon overlays. This is 3M glossy carbon, which is supposed to be one of the closer matches.
Ignore the fact that mine is slightly off-center. That was installer error, I have a new one to replace it anyway as I update sponsors each year.

I was asking the OP if the fiberglass hood saved any weight. Nothing about a piece of vinyl.

This is the OP's original post. Not sure where you got a replacement fiberglass hood from. Not trying to give you a hard time, just think you're either looking at the wrong thread or misread or something.

My mistake! Not sure why but I thought this to be a hood replacement. And the $170 was just an extra charge.

Come on! Post an up close pic... I'm 99% sure their website just shows an OEM hood with the carbon fiber inlay option and not their actual product. I'd like to see how close it looks to the OEM carbon fiber.

Surprisingly, it looks very close to the factory carbon fiber. Not quite as glossy, but damn close. For $150 + shipping, I figured it was worth a shot.

I just emailed Phoenix Graphix to see if the would cut me a roof and halo cut in carbon fiber to match the width. I absolutely love the way it looks but don't want the entire roof carbon fiber.

doesn't hurt to rub your hand around the hood to actually lather the soap a bit. You want the decal to be able to slide around until its centered. Once centered and you have it exactly where you want it,
start squeegying from the center out. Don't worry about the ends at the scoop and the back of the hood right away. Tuck it under after a few hours. Don't worry, it won't lose it stickiness. Use a hairdryer
to heat the ends up and make them very flexible and tuck them under.
Phoenix graphix has videos on youtube of Mark Worman installing their graphics on some of his restorations from the show Graveyard Carz. It's a pretty good tutorial.
