So here is the deal:

213 mile 2019 Orange ZO7, 3lz with all the fixings and black aluminum wheels
vs
10,000 mile 2016 Torch Red ZO7, 3lz all the fixings and a extra top, chrome wheels, software update for suspension and all the insurances including extended.

My Dad’s good friend just bought this car, trade In is 85k for the 19. He’ll give it to me shipped here for 85k
I can probably get rid of mine for around 70k

The biggest difference is the 19 is an auto and my 16 has a 3rd pedal. I don’t track race much anymore so not worried about overheating but I really like Manuals in my toys albeit I haven’t really driven many high performance autos. My car is paid for and if purchase this one also with cash. What would you do?

So the only difference is you'd be moving from a manual to an auto and have less miles? $85,000-$70,000 = an extra $15,000 out of your pocket to swap to an auto. Plus tax on the new car so that's another several thousand, then it's going to depreciate substantially once the c8 comes out next year. I can't think of any reason why someone would want to do that. Going from manual to auto alone is enough for me to say I wouldn't do it.

what was the original sticker price on the 19 car?

While it may seem like a good deal, you are foregoing incentivized interest rates... you are buying a "used" car in the banks eyes. The difference in RATE alone is going to set you back at least 6 grand beyond what you could buy a brand new one for.

You also lost your ability to lemon law the car, to some degree, should the car have issues down the road, when you buy used.

The auto trans is great, overheating wont be an issue.

The other part of the puzzle is the "i could probably get rid of mine for 70 grand"

Now lets assume you trade yours in somewhere and get 65 for it (if you are lucky since the market is flooded with these), the perk to trading in is you are only taxed on the difference... so you avoid 65 grand of tax in over 40 of the 50 states. If you buy your friend's car, you are paying full sales tax.

I think you could get a better deal on an 18 brand new then what the 19 will set you back when its all said and done and monthly payment is calculated with interest involved. 18's will have zero percent for the next few months.

The sticker on the 19 is about $108,000, mine was another $1000 or so. My car I bought with cash, just like I would this one. I have no debt and don’t plan on getting any. I said mine will sell for around 70k since that’s what I’ve seen on the web, obviously no guarantee. I edited my post since I didn’t mention my car and this one was/would be bought with cash., no payments. Thanks for you responses.

109 is a higher sticker than i anticipated, so you might be right about getting 70 for it.

You are basically getting his at 24 grand off then, correct? Thats not a bad deal on a 19 by any means.

The only trick left is if you have a buddy who has a dealer's license....

what you could do is, find your buyer for 70 grand... and tell the guy that if he buys it through your buddy's dealership, then he can get help with financing etc.

Meanwhile, once you have the 70g buyer lined up, you have the dealer buy the 19 from your friend, and sell it to you plus their dealer fee or whatever they want to make.

The dealer also contracts the guy at 70 grand, before they buy the 2 cars, yours and your friends... they hold that paperwork while the 2 cars come in, they deliver the 70g car to the buyer you bring to the table, and they sell you the 19.

The dealer wins because they get the loan kickback money on the guy who buys your 17, and they make a couple bucks selling the 19 to you... but you save a few thousand as you avoid sales tax on 70 grand...

what is your states vehicle sales tax rate?

Im in Texas so the sales tax rate is 6.25% on new vehicles and 80% on the Standard Presumptive Value (used non dealer sale).

You probably made a typo but mine is a 16.

There is no rational justification for the swap so do not look for one.

If it is worth the up charge for you to get a newer, different car on a pure yuck/buck basis - do it.

Otherwise, move on.

I would not do it. In a few years the C8 will be available and you will want to switch. Will the 19 be worth $15k more than the 16?

No; why spend the money for the same car...especially since you stated you prefer a manual.

GM quietly "fixed" overheating in 2017, different cooler, bigger supercharger cover, etc. etc. My 2017 Z07 has no overheating issues at all. I say go for it, I love the automatic, it is faster than manual.. no matter what people may tell you. The manual feels right for some people at the seat of the pants tho' Some just prefer the feel of shifting, the manual paddle shifting works for me on my automatic.

so $5,312 dollars is going to be tax on the 85g car, and if you have a dealer buddy help you, your tax will be under 950 due to trade money difference.

There are some that prefer the front engine body design. I know many would own say a McLaren, but there are certain designs that are dictated by a mid engine car that some do not like. If you don't like the cars shape, doesn't matter what it is or does.

I wouldn't do it. Odds are you'll have a hard time getting 70 for your 16 and even if you do it's a lateral change. For me it wouldn't be worth the difference and I bought mine the same way you did yours. I have a 15 with 14,000 miles and I wouldn't even think about it unless I was having an issue the newer one would solve. Even then I'd sell mine first so that I knew the actual cost rather than guessing at it.

Why people go from a Z to another Z of the same generation is beyond me lol. Makes no sense. Unless the newer one is cheaper (lower monthly payments).

Just wait 2 more years, that is probably the definite time we will see the C8 already being on the road, or at least heading to showrooms waiting for their new homes.

If you're leasing the car, i think that's a better idea, because that's only 3 years. Then 3 years the C8 been out and you can get into that.

But starting a whole new 5 year term with essentially the same car, no it makes zero sense.

Unless you're the type to do this just so can say, "i have a 2019". Which wears off in about 8-9 months lol. Then guess what? Your car isn't new anymore. Sorry haha

I really wouldn't do it. Sounds like you enjoy rowing the gears. Otherwise why change one Z for another?

I wouldn't do it.Two reasons, I went to an A8 from a M7 three years ago and hated it...I traded back to a C7Z M7 last Spring and love it. If you "enjoy" a manual, the paddles will not replace it. 2nd, you're not going to get $70k for yours. 3rd (I know i said 2 things), he's getting a great deal selling you his at $85k...and you miss out on first owners stuff like going to Spring Mountain. Just my $.02

I would keep what you have and pass on this deal. The deal itself money wise is not bad, going to an auto when you really like the M7 could be an issue. Money does not seem to be a problem so I would keep what you have and wait an see what the C8 has to offer.

70k for yours is a good price. If you have a buyer- at that price for your ‘16 sell it fast. I wouldn’t buy the 2019. I would wait for the c8. If you have to have a corvette your better off hanging on to your red 16. I am not doubting you but 70k for your 16 is a high number.

Good decision. No matter how much cash you have, putting it into something that depreciates and is very similar to what you already have makes no sense. Hang in there and wait til year two or three of the C8 and get something really different. My 2c
