Default Question about buying used MPS Cup 2’s, manufacturing date matter?

I’m just looking to buy some used MPS Cup 2’s for the rear of my car on the street, the super sports don’t grab enough. I see everyone posting the DOT code which refers to when they were made. If the tires from from 2015, is that a bad thing? Wasn’t sure if they changed the compound over the years or something...curious if there is something I should know about..

Thanks! Jordan

1: I would never buy them if they were greater than 2 years old;

2: Do you know 100% how they were stored? If in extreme cold then run, don't walk away;

3: I generally buy from the Tirerack, etc. UNLESS the seller is from a 'warm' state and the tyres are < 2 years old as above.

Be carful as the cups on the street seem to never get enough heat in them to get to their max traction. It take me 2 full laps on a high speed 3.2 mile road course to get them at optimum temps. Personally I hate them on the street and love my Super Sports then. I agree with Bish, storage is everything with a track use tire but for the street driving I dont think it would make much difference.

As above the SS have better grip at street temps than the SC2s.

Thanks guys, I wouldn’t have guessed the SS’s are better on the street then cup 2’s. Having a hard time getting traction in 1st and 2nd, and all I have is a Borka x-pipe and BMS intake. Not sure what route to take.

Hard to get them up to optimal temperature when driving on the street or highway. Operating temp is 190 degrees so you need a fair amount of time hard cornering or running at triple digit speeds to get the tires warm.

I may be in a different category I guess. Being in So Cal I actually liked the SC2's over the SS on the street. ..... 2 bad things. They pick up a lot of gravel and they run half the life...

The SC2's rarely broke loose like the SS do. I don't care how hot the tires are the SS always let go on heavy acceleration.
