I don't dislike the look of ME cars, I just like the look of the C7 better. Just bought a '19 Z06 with an M7 and I plan on keeping it a long time (my 3rd C7 and 5th vette). Call me a traditionalist, but I like the FE/RWD layout.

I cant believe anyone would anoint the C8 the champ before the first one hits the deck. I sincerely hope its a huge winner for Chevrolet and becomes another step in the evolution of the Corvette but for me I bought a 19 Z06 M7 vert because i had to have a drop top and a stick. I will be a very interested bystander and hope in a few years there is a M7 C8 to consider. I will also test the new C8 as soon as I can and judge the fun factor vs my Z06, that is what truly matters

The models that followed never could reach that heart throb. All of them were better, all of them were faster, but the '67 still stops traffic.

I hope the C8 is a nice car, but I will hold judgement....I can't understand all this hype on a car that most of us have never seen and none of us have driven. And to say it will be great and fantastic because it a Chevrolet, you live in a different world than I do seeing some of the BS we've all put up with on the C7. I love my C7 Z06, but it has it's issues, all of which could be solved by GM, but they ignore us. They will do the same thing on the C8, count on it.
Exactly. So the constant, oh its ugly, lines dont look right, this and that blah blah people are saying works the same way.

Everyone is dismissing it already and they haven't even seen it.

C8 has the potential. Thats what makes it different than the c7. We already know what the c7 can do.

Its the c8 that gives you a what if type of mentality.

perfect except for the ugly wing and snow plow in front. best performing C7 no doubt

Both are functional though. Something the z wishes it had so it didn't overheat lol and to run better track times.

You can order a low or high wing btw.

As many have said already, when the C8 comes out for real we will see. We have absolutely no specs yet. We have a few spy photos and some renderings, some leaked information (maybe). But we have not had the reveal yet. I can remember back a few year ago when the C7 was coming out . There was all the talk about doing away with the round tail lights. It was completely stupid how people argued over what was going to come out,and again that was before it was revealed. When it was finally revealed it was a beautiful car, and when the wide bodies came out they were even better. When I see the C8 I will comment on it's looks. When I see the specs I will discuss the performance. Until then it is either wishful thinking or delusional disillusionment. We just don't know what the C8 will bring. So until the C8 is revealed, I will enjoy the crap out of my C7 Z06. And when the C8 is actually revealed I will render my verdict, just as I did with the C7. Life flies by fast enough, without looking for what is to come. I for one will live today and hope the future brings better things.

"They" also say it will be faster than a speeding bullet....or it will be slow......or it will be the highest performance car ever....or it will be horrible....it will be beautiful....or it will be hideous. wait until July and then we will see.

2. I am a Chevy guy (specifically small block Chevy V8 guy).
3. I am a Corvette guy.
4. I do mostly all of the maintenance on all of my cars.
5. I put over 15k miles a year on my Vette's.

However the simple fact is the mid-engine design is not the design for the everyday American's daily activities. It’s a design for exotics and weekend racing.

Since its beginnings the Corvette has filled a niche. The Porsche 911 has filled a similar niche but different. The design for both has evolved and has been competitive with the best in the world for over 60 years. Both are said to be flawed because they are not considered by snobs to be mid-engine designs even though technically the Corvette is.

Supposedly the mid-engine design is superior. Perhaps it is, perhaps it isn’t.
What we do know is currently and over the past 60 years there haven't been many mid-engine street going designs that have totally dominated Corvette or Porsche for any given year unless they had/have a superior power to weight ratio. And for recent years we have to add the Viper and the Mercedes AMG GT R to that mix as well.

The fact is for street legal cars the other configurations have held their own over the years. Just as the mid-engine cars evolved the other configurations evolved and got better as well.

This brings me to my point. I know mid-engine is technically the best layout for a car. However I don’t want a mid-engine car. Or a rear engine car. I don’t like the configurations. They are not practical for my needs. Corvettes have met my needs of both performance and practicality for 25 years. I can throw loads of cargo in the back, take the top off and put it on top of all that stuff, stop at the store on the way home and pick up a bunch of grocery. I can't do that in any other sport car.

So you see not everyone wants a mid-engine sports car. When the C8 comes out, there will be one less choice for folks like me. When in fact the C8 should have been in addition to the current configuration offering. An additional layout for us Vette folks while maintaining the original configuration. The Viper is already gone and never was all that practical as a daily driver anyway. But at least it was American and it wasn’t mid-engine.

I never understood why when it comes to sport cars, Americans are so quick to dismiss their achievements. Corvettes have competed with the best in the world for over 65 years. We've won some and lost some. We have had good years and not so good years, just like every other sports car platform and manufacture on the planet. For its time here the Viper has done so as well.

Just imagine how the world would turn upside down if Porsche said "you know what! The rear engine layout is not as good as the mid-engine layout so we are going to change the 911 platform to mid-engine!". Ponder that for an hour or two. Yea better not even go there lest there be hell to pay.

911 drivers know the layout is flawed. They don’t give a ****. They expect the engineers to continually improve the design and they live with it knowing in the hands of a good driver it can hold its own against anything in the world....with flaws and all.

Corvettes are no different. We know the flaws of the platform. We know the flaws of a pushrod V8. We choose to accept it for what it is, master driving it by driving it practically every day, and relying on the advantage of thousands of miles and hundreds of hours more seat time in type as compared to the weekend exotic driver. And having faith the engineers will continue to evolve it in the current configuration and keep us competitive. No different than the 911 lovers demand from Porsche.

Corvette abandoned a configuration it has been evolving/perfecting for over 65 years.
With the Viper out of production and Corvette going mid-engine I feel like America and the world has lost something. Something imperfect but perfectly American and perfectly competitive.

A choice, a statement that says you do it your way, we Americans choose to do it our way. Meet me or beat me to the road house at the bottom of the hill and we can continue this discussion over a cold brew.
Thank you for writing a refreshingly logically laid out, well written post that caters to neither the C7 or C8 fanbois here. I have a paid for '19 M7 2LZ Z06 which I bought once I became aware of a number of final enhancements (not mentioned by GM in the '19 brochure) some as a consequence of he ZR1 program and then installed in the '19 Z06's. I believe the earliest C7 Z06's did suffer from not as a thorough engineering development cycle as they might have had as they should have had, probably as a consequence of GM's recent brush with bankruptcy during C7 gestation. So, I think the '19 FE Z06 is the best of the FE Z06's with very few remaining flaws. So the car is great so far (minus the cast aluminum wheel weaknesses) and it's paid for so it will be kept for quite a while.

The C8? Well just as the C8 critics are over their skis on a car that has not been fully revealed, tested or owned yet, the C8 fan bois are also in the same position. Some making pretty silly claims for the performance of a base model. Suggest all sides take a chill pill and let events unfold at their pace. Undoubtedly, barring unforeseen circumstances, the C8 generation will improve on C7 generation. Certainly, although the C7 certainly took some years to fully evolve in the immediate post bankruptcy era, the radical changes in C8 architecture, transmissions, electronics and upper level powertrains will likely present its own teething issues. Again, patience here will be the key, as the C8 goes through its own incremental evolutionary changes to address problems as they surface.

Car & Driver Magazine One Lap yearly testing sessions at VIR have proven that both the C7 Z06's and ZR1s rank near the top of all performance cars ever tested. No doubt that C8 will eventually add to Corvette's distinguished performance.

One reason some may keep the c7 would be the difference in appearance. Some might not like the change, similar to the ZR1 aesthetic change. Some other reasons would be the c7 is paid for or some may feel somewhat cheated by GM for not fixing the major issues and or lack of build quality.
