Default Car modding builder

I am considering modifing my car. I have been looking at different builders but I am looking for current real world feedback.

If you recently had some major work done on your Z06. Who did you use? Any positive or negative stories? Vendors come and go. So does the quality. Looking to ensure no nightmares.

I know what you mean about quality / nightmares - Had enough of those between my best friend and I that we had to open our own shop lol.

I have heard really good things about Cordes performance from a number of people. Garrett Mitchell had all kinds of issues with his C7 and Cordes were the ones that got it running properly.

I went to Race Proven Motorsports in Delaware. Guys answer their phone, have been great even after the install. So good in fact, we also sent them my bros C6 ZR1.

Fran tunes safe - car runs great- makes 900+whp.

The totally separate shop in NC is legit but not Delaware. Haven't seen a single RPM (DE) car run (60-130, 1/4 etc.) anywhere near where the dynos suggest.

Add a bit to this. I live in Central Florida.

I reached out to a couple well know shops and also a local one with a good reputation.

1) Late Model Racecraft - Quote was 10K higher than all that I recieved. I had reached out via email. I then reached out via phone to follow up and no answer. Picked up and the dropped.

2) Florida High Performance - I call them twice across two different weeks. Both times it went to voicemail. Kind of concerning about support if they cannot answer.

3) Powertech Performance in St. Pete - Talked to them and they seems very nice and knowlegable. Provided my info and requested an emailed quote. Over a week and no quote. I did follow up and was told they were busy but will get me one. Over one week seems like a long time just for a quote.

4) Katech - Talked with them. Super nice and informative. Received a quote. Quote was about right in price but not very itemized. Just a single number. Biggest issue is they are far away and transport costs will need to be added.

5) Vengeance Racing - Emailed and talked with them. Responsive and informative. Recieved multiple quotes and discussion about options. Quote was itemized and detailed on all costs including custom plumbing. Interesting it was the least expensive but not enough to really matter.

At this time I am leaning towards Vengeance Racing as they are the only one that has been responsive. Any good or bad stories? More recent the better. This will be a big build and I want it done right. This will be an engine out for cam, heads. TVS 2650, updated fuel and cooling system plus headers. Looking for mid 850 rwhp.

I want someone that will not make the car a mess that never runs right and is a shop queen. My car has remained stock from new as I had a nightmare on a modded car. I love the car but miss a custom built car when they are built right.

I've never dealt with Powertech Performance so I can't speak on them, but the others should be able to handle an 850rwhp 2650 build with zero issues.

I spoke to Erik Bentley at Florida High Performance.

BladeZ06, did you leave a voicemail?

Erik responded, “Feel free to chime in on our behalf and say that we are completely accessible and that there are multiple ways to get ahold of us - website, social media, email, phone, etc.”

I’ve only had great communication with Erik. Erik was recommended to me by two people and I’m glad they did. Erik is a working owner, I like working with an experienced person instead of a salesperson.

BladeZ06, I wish you much success in your search for a shop.

I did not leave a voicemail. Might give him another try. How did you get in touch with him? Private number or the mail listed one?

I usually use email. I have communicated by phone and email. I know Erik will respond quickly.

BladeZ06, I share your concern about shops that don’t respond. Erik has gone over and above with me. He spends a lot of time discussing the work on my car. Communication and knowledge are a couple of reasons I use Florida High Performance.

There are tons. They went 9.7@143 with 6 speed 7 years ago with a HC C6Z. They also still hold the SBE LS7 record..... sooo not sure what you are paying attention to.

Disagree . The cars perform for their mods - right in line with everything else . The Dynos are STD which they never deny. Dynos are a tool, not dick measuring contest.

my car does a high 4 60-130 and it’s a manual convertible- right in line for the mods

Fran can tune LS stuff, no denying that. The OP was asking about his C7, so why you're brining up 6 gen LS accolades like it's relevant to LT tuning is moot. Apples and oranges.

Im happy for you. There's still countless cars leaving RPM claiming 1000HP+ running 10s in the 1/4 and five second 60-130 pulls. Their cars are a joke at every drag or Pocono event.

There's a few legit shops in FL. There is zero need to send your car to LMR with their ridiculous prices. If you're going to ship the car off send it to CPR who's a regular on this forum. ALL of their cars preform.
JTM in NY is another shop to consider if shipping it off, but again there are some legit speedshops right there in FL. I can speak on a few DM if interested.

You live in Florida & lucky to have Florida High Performance basically in your backyard. I've known the owner Erik for over 15 years. Built a few WS6 LS based builds for me in another life. If nothing else he attentive, honest , knowledgeable, communicable & devoted to pleasing the customer. You will be in good hands. Leave a voicemail, he will certainly respond.

My car has been to Vengeance Racing twice. Once in 2023, then again in 2024. The first time for max effort build with ported stock blower. They did a good job, and everything went as planned. Car ended up making 850 whp on e85. I was very happy with it. Sent it back a second time last spring/summer to upgrade to the Maggy 2650 and Fore Triple in tank fuel system. This time it didn't go so smooth. Told me they'd have the car for 2-3 weeks. They had the car 3 months. Customer service was terrible compared to the first time, basically got one story after another from the customer sales rep I dealt with as to where my car was in the build process. Spoke with the owner and he apologized and basically said he was putting out one fire after another with his operation and even threatened to close down if his employees didn't get their **** together. He said he would take some $ off my final bill for all the troubles, which he never did. Car came back with about an 8 inch deep scratch in the driver side door sill which they clearly had to see, yet never said a word about to me. It was like dealing with a completely different shop the second time my car was sent there, and not in a good way. The only good thing is that my car was tuned by Howard Tanner and makes the power it's supposed to and drives like stock until you get into it. Now makes 930 whp on e85 with the Maggy 2650 and Fore Triple. Howard Tanner did an amazing job, and I believe he is the director of operations there now. He just joined Vengeance last year right before my car was sent there, and his tuning is much better than the first time I sent it there as they had someone remote tune it that time, which they didn't disclose to me at the time. I'd say Howard is about the only good thing going at Vengeance right now unless things have changed for the better since last year. At some point I will probably be looking at sending it somewhere for port injection, built trans, etc. It will probably be sent to Cordes in Arizona, which sucks because I really like what Howard did with the tuning. I just don't want to deal with all the other headaches I dealt with last time with the shop itself. Call Joe at Cordes and speak with him. I talked to him about sending mine there even though another shop already worked on it and he was very informative and answered any questions I had and was very up front and honest about everything. Super good guy, and he has a hell of a good tuner for the C7 platform.
