Default ZR1: LT5 Confirmed (***Photo***)

What do we have here? And where is the rest of it? Does this dispel the SB4 from Mercury or could it just be renamed?

That looks to be the lid of a supercharger.

That would be my first guess since the style letters on CORVETTE are C7 style, unless the mid-engine car is not a C8, but I am going to take Rick Conti's words as it being for the 2019 ZR1.

That's the top of the exposed supercharger housing. Obviously a casting with raised lettering and rows of raised ribs to draw heat from it. The design is consistent with the supercharger top on the C6 ZR1 LS9. Blue Lettering was on the LS9 lid and most likely will be on this new LT5 blower lid as well. You can see that the photo was taken of the top at the rough casting stage before the proud surfaces were machined down. Check out the image of the LS9 blower lid below.

If this is nothing more than a pushrod supercharged engine, it will only bolster the collector value of the 4 cam LT5. If you're thinking of buying a C4 ZR1...now is the time. If this is a revamp of an LT engine and doesn't, at minimum, include 4 cam heads, then it's going to be a sad day. You have Ford over there, pumping out exotic carbon monocoques and flat plane engines, Corvette needs to respond with this ZR1 and Mid car in a big way. We are all "patiently" waiting.

I noticed on the LS9 it has LS9 supercharged and the plastic cover on the ends had just Corvette on it. This one has Corvette LT5. While not final I’m sure, will it not be supercharged?

i don’t think it’s a supercharger Cover. I think it’s a DOHC valve cover. The two holes you see are spark plug holes.

Except spark plugs on DOHC heads go down the middle of the head - in between the valve banks.

Underside of DOHC head - center holes are where the spark plugs are:

Top side of a DOHC head - spark plugs down the middle easily seen:

Another supercharger. Ah well, nice to see the code name back although I’m sure this version won’t hold a candle to the beauty of the original. Wish they had saved the code for a truly special engine design. As long as they don’t slap pizza box engine covers on it.

Not at all. Go look at the supercharger on and LS9 without the cover on it. this looks almost identical. Definitely not a valve cover.

The question is, will this machined Supercharger cover be exposed to the fresh air or will it be under a black canopy of carbon fibre that is being displayed with camouflage over it?

It would be a horrible travesty if GM uses the LT5 moniker on a pushrod motor.
