I road raced for 20+ years and when I tracked my 15" Z51 with automatic, I was so impressed. I knew I made the right decision going with the automatic. It is faster shifting than I could ever do with a manual. The down shifting was right on, like it knew the perfect gear to select. Never overheated. The brakes were at their limit at Road America and Blackhawk Farms.
The automatic probably was at least a 0.5 seconds faster per lap or maybe more. It also allowed myself to totally focus in the hard braking zones and also to focus better in transitions where a shift would be required, thus allowing at the limit handeling with out upsetting the cars ultimate limit. So yes I will be getting the Automatic, it has proven itself to be superior on the track.
As an engineer I believe Tadge is saying the manual is able to better tolerate the heat as it has less parasitic loads, is slightly lighter and thus ultimatly would hold up better in years of hard track usage. Meaning used about a dozen weekends a year of all out racing. I will not be doing serious racing in the C7 ZR1, but doing multiple track days a year with it.
Also note the guys at Spring Mountian us lots of automatics and do not have problems with them in the desert heat they operate in, and their cars get well used.

Just like all GM’s other cars, they will build as many as they can sell, you can get one at sticker, or do what I will do and wait until the hype dies down and get one discounted.

The A8 will be boss at the 1/4 mile but maybe the M7 will be fastest at race tracks and more fun to drive.
Be interesting once the cars are out!

Scraping the splitter.
I'm still enjoying the heck out of my ACR-E, so I'll sit on the sidelines for a year or so and go from there.
I don't like what they did with the front of the car, and I'll really need to see one in person to see what side of the fence I fall with that. But the performance of the car is going to be incredible.

if I was getting one ZR1 and I would not do two. The ZR1 M7 will be getting left at a stop light by the Z06 in the A8.
The M7 is too handicapped but I still love it none the less.
But I like the A8 a lot as well!
