The first ZR1 1970
I remember as a 17 year old going to Taylor Chevrolet's showroom in Rochester NY and seeing a new red '70 Corvette LT1 Coupe. Looking at the sticker price the car was just over $6300 where I also noticed the ZR1 Special Purpose Engine Package. (option code ZR1) From the outside it looked like a normal LT1 Corvette Coupe. However the car had the M22 transmission, heavy duty power brakes, special aluminum radiator, special springs, shocks and front and rear stabilizer bars. You could not order the car with a radio, power steering, air conditioning, power windows and some other options. Only 25 of these cars were made in 1970. The ZR1 was a $969 option over a std. 300 HP Corvette Stingray or $521 more than the $448 LT1 option.
This 1970 ZR1 was the first and last I ever saw. If it still exist today and is original...I could only imagine it's value!

Gary, have you been able to research the difference between the ZR1 and ZR2 options for that same year ?
was there also a HP increase with either package ?

I believe the HP rating on the ZR1's were rated as the same as on the LT1's
