I wouldn't. The C7 is a proven sales success and the FE design has averaged 25,000+ yearly sales since the introduction of the C5 (it was more before then). The ME is an unproven product in terms of sales, so producing the FE and ME simultaneously allows GM to hedge its bets on the sales success of the ME car.
Personally, I think the market for a ME Corvette is far smaller than those on this forum think.

No way it’s only 1 year. To start with, it’s slated to begin production in March of ‘18 as a ‘19. Even if they were only going to make 2000 in the shortened 9-10 months left in the 2018 “calendar” year, they would have plenty of production bandwidth in 2019. They will need to run at least a few years to recoup costs. There’s still money to be made on the C7 platform. And 2000 is significantly more than either C4 ZR-1 or C6 ZR1 ever had produced in a given year.
