How the 2019 ZR1 Stacks Up Against the 2018 911 GT3

But, I'm in agreement, we're talking a 755hp car vs a 500 hp car. Or a car with a 4.75 hp to weight ratio vs a car with a 6.2 hp to weight ratio.
I have a GT3 inbound, and after recently driving it on track in Germany, the level of constant abuse these cars can take is unmatched.
Having said that, most will never actually track these cars, most will order the automatic and for weekend drives the ZR1 is going to be an amazing machine, I'll plan to buy one once I get the itch for high hp again.
But for driver involvement, imo the gt3 has this niche market covered, especially with the re introduction of the manual trans.
Best Regards,
Dave

Hey Nick, I know you are getting a lot of flack from these guys. And You appeared to be a level headed nice guy, maybe you should sell me that horrible looking GT3RS for MSRP. Think about all the corvette owners that you are going to make happy just by doing it. Let me know.

Nick, were you at VIR earlier this month? I saw a GT3 RS that same color when I was there.

The 911 styling just does not do it for me personally. C6 is gorgeous. Now a 918, I'll take one!

Say what you want, I will take a GT2 RS over a C7 ZR1 any day, every day, all day.

I would take any car more expensive than a ZR1, sell it, buy a ZR1 and bank the extra. But who cares, right?

I liked my 911 Turbo S much better than a GT3. Faster and more comfortable and better equipped. My C6 ZR1 is my second favorite driving car. Not sure this new ZR1 will be enough to get me out of either.

Turbo S is a great touring car no doubt. But if your planning on a track day weekend (and are not at 6,000 feet ) GT3 is the weapon of choice IMO.

Living at 'altitude' like yours... you're naturally going to like any Forced Induction car over a N/A car.

GT3RS is a badass car. Hate it when one group bashes a car just because of its brand... I am not a huge porsche fan but respect them for sure! And if someone gave me any porsche i would be happy lol.

The reality at the road course is that it will look very different than what people understand from reading the media (marketing pamphlets).
Track driving is not the same as having ideal conditions, no traffic, and infinite skill level. YOU the buyer are not Randy Pobst on a sunny day with warm concrete 50* ambient air, insured up the ***, supported by a dozen crew members, driving on an empty track with no sound limits.
So what would it look like?
Well, the GT3s are easier to drive, especially without computer assistance. They are also much lighter, which means if you run into one at the road course on Cup 2s, it is likely not on overheated tires. The ZR1 will have the tires in optimal heat range for a couple of laps, if you don't find the GT3 then, or there is a bit of traffic when you do, or it takes you a lap of back and forth...the edge goes to GT3.
Do not underestimate a naturally aspirated, easy to drive, 500 horse car that is 500lbs lighter on track. There is a very limited set of conditions where the ZR1 would shine on a road course. I presume that you'll see a lot of lap records, but the average lap in a ZR1 driven by your average driver is going to look much different than that.
Truth is GM does not have a GT3 competitor. Or you could say it's the Grand Sport, and it's a much slower but low budget option.

I know Porsche's are great and wonderful cars and those underneath shots were impressive. But, don't mean to bust anyone's bubble but to most people looking at both, the Porsche's still look like a Frog. Just saying.

Not to me. 911 looks better to me than any vette I ever saw.

I'd take the Porsche based on looks alone. Performance is unlikely to disappoint with either. But for the cost of either of these I could buy a couple of used C6Z06 or Lamborghini Gallardos in good condition :-D Think I'd take the lambo :-D

I'm with ya. I don't like the Porsche design language at all. It's 60s design ... I own a Porsche despite that I don't like the looks much but the engineering is clever, the car is fun, capable, and built like a tank. I drive it despite the looks...

Which year and model do you own?

I got a 2009 Cayenne GTS -4.8L V8 naturally aspirated with 6 speed manual. I use it to tow the Ariel Atom to the track. Fugly car but the throttle response is worlds better than C7 Z, the shifter is smoother and it has loads of clever engineering built in. It tests the air quality and decides real time whether to circulate the air in the cabin or get fresh air from the outside. The suspension has continuously variable shock and spring rates, and can move 4 inches up or down from loading height to off road setting. In the C7 Z my HVAC never worked right, even after all the GM updates to the software, and the suspension, while clever only continuously adjusts shock rate not spring rate.

I'm a Porsche fan too and just sold a highly modded 911 turbo, RWD with a Cup LSD, billet turbos, coilovers etc. it was a super solid well built car but in the real world the GT2 RS is gone, sold out and and most dealers were getting 500k over the 297k slicker price, so at almost 800k I would take a ZR1 and actually drive it. The GT2 RS would be a great buy if you could actually buy one for the 300k.
