It's going to be 1:53-1:54s on VIR Full course which is absolutely ridiculous.

If you're not going to track the heck out of the car? Eh...maybe not. But I'm not one to tell people how to spend their money or use their car.

Default With all that drag!? ;)

Downforce is a drag, man. The vertical-wheel-position information recorded on our data file reveals speed-sucking downforce at work. As the Z06 accelerates down the Grand West Course’s back straight, the difference between the front- and rear-wheel positions shrinks. In other words, the tall wickerbill-equipped spoiler on the Z06’s tail increases rear tire loading with speed, driving the body closer to the ground. At 145 mph, the rear of the car is more than an inch lower than the Z06’s static height. The spike in the rear-height trace at the end of the straight shows the car pitching forward, the result of load transfer during braking.

Regarding the Willow lap time, I wonder if it can get close to the Viper ACR. I also wonder how the Viper was able to do a 1:21!!! That's 4 seconds faster than a Z06, faster than a 918 too. I know they change gear ratios and suspension settings on the Viper ACR for every track they run, but it is still hugely impressive.

I always figured that the ZR1 was the Corvette team's answer to the Viper ACR. So, it'll be interesting to see how the two car's lap times compare.

The ACR-E's suspension is manually adjustable, but all tracks are run with the same trans and rear end ratios.....in others words the ratios were the same for all track record attempts.

And you are correct, the ZR1 is a formidable answer to the Viper and will probably be faster than the ACR-E at certain tracks. The big ringer for the Viper was the bubblegum sticky Kumho tires...not sure how sticky the ZR1's tires will be at the track for multiple laps.

Thanks for the info on the Viper.

For us So Cal guys, track times at Willow are a big deal. And a 1:21 is just so much faster than anything else. I mean, it would be impressive if the Viper was a second faster than a Z06 or a GT3, but 3 or 4 seconds faster is just nuts.

For those who haven't seen it, here's the video of the Viper ACR at Willow...

They simply compensated for a truck torque heavier street car with big downforce.
Cars have to be able to conform to a track, and road. Just being smashed into it!?
Quiet milk runs, I suppose.

Why would GM "answer" a car that is no longer built, and was never a competitor in the first place?

You are right that GM may not care in terms of marketing, but you can bet that the guys of the Corvette team care a heck of a lot. Many of them have racing backgrounds and don’t like to get lose.

Also, it appears the car needs to be at 4th and 5th gear to reasonably get it around. And that Auto in D mode is terrible, has a tough time figuring out shifts.

With 105 more HP/TQ, I am amazed GM couldn't push Michelin to make a wider rear tire. The car clearly needs more tire.

The Aero is impressive but this is truly an exercise in giving us a sledgehammer instead of a scalpel.

As a Z06 owner, I believe the best car Corvette has on sale for the road course is the Grand Sport. The true measure of a good sports car is how it puts the power down.
All engines move that much and active engine mounts are more to control by vibration by changing the damping based on the frequency changes as the engine revs.

It is not to physically control the movement of the engine.

I doubt that VERY much.

The Corvette Team has NEVER "lost" to any competitor since its inception.
The car is far and away the most successful Sportscar sold in this country going all the way back to its birth.
Neither Ford nor Chrysler ever came close to its success.

Warm up lap - fast lap - cool down lap... self explanatory about overheating issue imo.

The temperature was 60 to 70 degrees, so that would not be possible.

I highly doubt that this new car will have overheating issues even in hot weather.
