Default ZR1 Is Louder Than Thunder

So I’m sure many of you have seen the new interactive ZR1 sound feature on Chevy’s website by now. It’s only 50 decibels at idle, which is pretty quiet. But the crazy part is the volume at WOT: 130+ decibels. Below is a list of loud noises and their decibel readings. The ZR1 maxes Out at 138. Enjoy.

Its occurs to me that you probably won't be able to track the ZR1 at the NCM motorsports park given their nose abatement issues with the neighbors.

I've read it has 4 different exhaust modes. I'm sure that is wide open. My guess is they will have a setting you can use for the track

there’s gotta be selectable exhaust modes that quiet it down a bit. An exhaust this loud wouldn’t be allowed at Leguna Seca either. I wonder if there’s some official Corvette earmuffs or earplugs offered as an accessory.

Where are you taking the measurements and how far from the exhaust tips?

I'm sure there is but I doubt it will be for track use. I know GM said not to use stealth exhaust mode on track with the Z06. There's also those pictures of the mules running MRLS and the ring with exhaust diverters welded on to the mufflers.

Chevy’s measurements. If you’re on a phone, Go to this link to the ZR1 page on the Chevy website. There’s a section towards the bottom of the page titled The Fiercest. Click “Activate” and it starts an interactive sound clip. This also displays the decibel levels in real time, and that’s where I got the number 138 from. http://www.chevrolet.com/upcoming-vehicles/corvette-zr1

Regardless of the way the sound was measured, it’s going to be loud and it spits flames, not to mention the fact that it actually sounds good. I have a feeling that 138 decibels will simply be used to make claims used in advertising, but the ZR1’s exhaust system will eliminate the need for a radio and speakers because it plays the best music. That’s a win-win for Chevy and the Consumer.
