ZR1 or C8?
I had planned to trade-in my Z06 for a ZR1, but after further deliberation I’m now considering to wait for the C8, or another car... Aside from the power bump, it’s still the same old C7. Not sure moving to the ZR1 will give me the wow impression that I had when purchasing the Z.
I’m sure that the power increase will be noticeable, however, I have yet to test the limits of the Z06. The cockpit, style, and drivablility will be essentially the same. Aside from having the “King of Corvettes,” the trade might be regrettable... or not. Still on the fence.

I hear you, it's a tough decision. So many unknown about the C8, I wanted to replace my '12 ZR1 with this new one, then I am looking at the huge price difference to a C7 Z06, and the rationing and allocations game, and big ADMs the dealers will add, and the long wait time too. Not sure what I will do either.

Call me weird but, the huge amount of space under the hatch was a key selling point on a Corvette. I run errands and buy groceries. You can do that in ultimate style with a C7. You trade performance potential (that you can never really use off of a racetrack) for everyday utility.

depends, what's more important, performance or new styling/saving money?

If I could afford a C7ZR1 I'd buy one in a minute.... then I'd buy a C8 when I got tired of the C7.

I'm hoping for a significant power increase in the "base" Stingray/Corvette C8, not like the laughable/embarrassing "increase" in the Stingray from the base C6. At least put it over a two generation old Z06 and go on a diet for crise sakes.

My guess is the base C8 will come out with a slightly massaged LT motor while the "high feature motor" will wait. I'm guessing 480 or 490 HP.

I am thinking the nice round number of 500 HP, or maybe to eclipse the C6 Z06, how about 511 (has a nice ring to it).

Honestly this is a silly question...the ZR1 is a hyped up Z06 and if you have yet to test the limits of the Z06 then getting a ZR1 would be of no use. The mid-engine will be a TOTALLY different car.

I'm going to wait and see what the mid-engine looks like before making ANY decisions.....

Laughable? 460 while getting an honest 32 mpg highway with the new EPA standards is excellent. I used to brag that my C5 got 30-32... it's rated at 28, but if you used the modern EPA protocol it'd be rated at 25.

And yes, laughable.....30 bhp increase is nothing, the C6 got a 50 bhp increase over the C5 and it weighed less, the C7 got an increase of 30 and gained weight.

I got similar mileage in my MN6 C5 on the highway (which really is the only mileage I care about....which is almost zero f'ks). I filled my same sized tank (70 liters) and made it to Kelowna (680 kms) with a quarter of a tank and that's me driving my MN7 in eco mode.

It didn't get lighter and the LS6 already made 405. The C6 couldn't get out of its own way until the LS3.

I hope there are not tens of posts in this and future threads by “group A” members trying to convince “group B” members of the wisdom of their own particular choice, with group B members trying to do likewise in reverse.
That are/will be both outstanding Corvettes. I am not going to try and convince anyone of anything, but instead I celebrate and am excited for those who are going to get a ZR1; and I similarly commend and will be excited for those who are later going to get a ME.
We are extremely lucky we will have two fantastic choices (as do those who will be buying a SR, A GS, or a Z06). Great Corvette options for us all!

Your numbers on the '04 coupe are off. The heaviest variant has an official curb weight of 3214 vs the C6 of 3199... That's a wash IMO. But I digress... I've owned them all and 460 vs. 500 horse doesn't diminish the C7 at all.

I think we can all assume that the C8 will be a TOTALLY different car, but thanks for the insightful response

It true that the C7 ZR1 allocations handed out in December will be the only allocation for the entire 2019 production year? Trying to figure out if they will sell all units at MSRP or above or if I wait I can get a price below that. I have a 2015 Z06 so I can surely wait. I can sell my Z06 myself
