SF Bay Area dealer mark-ups

Safety Car
I lived in San Ramon for 28 years.
When I went shopping for my 2005 C6 Z51, Dublin had some of the first ones in CA & wanted a $25k markup. They wouldn't give me the time of day when I went in the showroom.
I bought my car the following week at MSRP & the dealer paid for our flight to Santa Barbara to come pick it up,

In the meantime I had bought 10 cars from him and he was kind enough to kinda sponsor my race car...half price labor rates and his net on parts.
Every dealer has a few customers they have a long term business relationship with and they will get any "deals" that are cut. Calling around to dealers that don't know you and you have never bought from simply is a waste of cell phone minutes.
Also re: relationships on Employee Pricing. A distant family member wanted a Soltice right when they came out and were attracting Dealer Pack prices and had a Nephew that was an executive at Pontiac. She got the employee number and went to the local dealer and they refused to honor the Employee Pricing. An hour later the Dealer got a phone call from an Executive secretary at Pontiac asking if they ever wanted to get another Soltice delivered to them. The Dealer called my relative back and said come pick up your new red Soltice convertible at Employee Pricing.
Every business is built on relationships.

Finalist 2020 C7 of the Year -- Unmodified
Would never even pay MSRP on any Brand New Corvette but if someone has enough money and the car is a limited production then who am I to judge. $25,000-$50,000 over MSRP what a joke for the rest of us.

I'll probably order a loaded 2019 Z06/Z07 (once GMS is opened up which may be fairly quickly, like it was for the 2017 & 2018 model years), and send it to Lingenfelter for some top notch engine enhancements. The only way GM will open up GMS for the ZR1 is if they aren't selling as planned, and production already has the materials schedule to build a certain number, regardless.
BTW, I'll never pay over MSRP for a new car... ever!

Well, probably better to do that and at least you get an answer than like one of the big dealers who is a vendor here who never calls you back after many messages left...........

Too bad Tim isn't at Boardwalk anymore. I bought my 2015 from him brand new with the GM Employee Discount at a time when all other Bay Area dealers were charging $15k-$25k over MSRP and laughed at me when I asked if they accepted the GM Employee Discount. I'd consider a ZR1, but not at a $50k premium.

I have bought 4 of my last 5 cars out of state due to dealer mark ups in CA. I have no issues taking a nice cross country drive in my new cars. It’s turned into a cool way to get to know my cars. I actually look forward to it now. I bought my last 1LE in Chicago and my best friend flew out with me for the drive back. He ended up buying an SS in Idaho and we had the best drive of our life’s “Top Gear Style” driving back across the country in our new babies talking in talkies the entire way Home. It was a wonderful trip, and I saved 10k after expenses.

People spending is a good thing so why do you care? It's not your money.

It doesn’t seem difficult at all getting a ZR1 at sticker. Clearly you have dealers throwing themselves on this thread alone offering sticker deals.
Ford’s specialty vehicles is a different animal altogether. Rediculous actually. Going into the 4th model year, it’s still not easy finding a GT350 R at sticker.
