Hello all,

Will be buying my first Corvette this year. Budget around $120k. Do I reach a little further for a ZR1? Or do I go with a Callaway SC757? Why? It will be our Mom and Dad car and no need for track performance TBH. I appreciate your input!

Thanks

Frankly, It depends on what you're after.

If you're not tracking it, they both have the same basic power and performance so seat of the pants fun will be about the same. If you were tracking the car, clearly the ZR1 would probably be the better choice.

Resale is always hard to judge but there aren't going to be as many Callaway's out there as ZR1's so maybe you're retained value might be higher, but honestly not sure anyone buys these cars with that in mind.

I've got a C7Z06 now and though I'm sure I'll get slammed for this statement, I don't plan to track my new ZR1 much at all (if any). I just love the improved looks of the car and love the seat of the pants performance. Most people will say the ZR1 is the track version of the Z06 done right, but it's also the top Corvette.

If you want the next level of corvette design and you want the king of the hill, there's only one choice though - ZR1.

Just my .02 worth...

Price wise you would be better to get a Z06 at a discount (new) and have the dealer send it to Callaway for an additional $18,000. That can get you a really nice Callaway SC757 for around $100K loaded. It will not be a ZR1.

$120K will get you the base ZR1. To get a better equip ZR1 you will probably need to stretch closer to $140k. I have a 2017 Z06 and love it. Plenty for me but again it is not a ZR1. For me it is a non-issue. A Callaway SC757 would be awesome and save you $40k+ and IMO would be the way I would go. Only you can decide what style and performance you prefer.

Since you are buying your first Corvette, just so you know. The opportunities to use even the full horsepower of the ZO6 on the street are pretty limited, and even less if the tires are cold or the steering wheel is turned. The Callaway and ZR1 will be worse or better depending on your intentions. But I would take either of them.

Bingo. And Callaway’s don’t hold their value very well.

Sorry, but without data, your post is nothing but a hit-and-run. Having follow these cars for over 30 years, and even sold a couple myself personally, they seem to hold their value just fine.

If it's for your Mom and Dad, why not just buy them a loaded up Stingray? Unless your Dad could really use 755 horsepower, it seems like a waste.

What would you like us to do? Give away the Callaway package at $18,495 for free?

Good luck with that!

The MSRP of this Z06 from the factory is $108,400.

The cost of the Callaway package - which we've paid for is $18,495.

We have the car discounted at $111,719.

So for an additional $3,319 over the factory MSRP - you're getting a car with a total price of $126,895.

Next time you go to your local grocery store, and pick up a gallon of milk that's on sale - take it up to the store manager and ask them if they would take less money for that discounted gallon of milk.

Let me know what they say...

I would say ZR1 all the way. Callaway does make good products, but it won't be a ZR1

There is absolutely no comparison between a highly developed and engineered ZR1 and the Callaway. They are worlds apart from a engineering perspective.

The Callaway SC757 Z06 doesn't pretend to be a ZR1, so we're okay.

The Callaway SC757 IS a highly developed, engineered package for the Z06, which holds two U.S. patents. We, Callaway, are an engineering company. It's what we do. Looking at the ZR1, it's interesting to see a larger supercharger and "hole in the hood", although that car has a carbon fiber cover, which isn't as effective as an exposed SC design when combatting heat, so will be interesting to follow in application.
