Default ZR1 runs a 2:37.25 lap at VIR!

Please delete if this is a repost.

According the Chevy video on FB it's a production car lap record.

I was looking through the forums to make sure nobody had posted this yet so I could post it! The car had a Roll cage and Harnesses, protocol GM track testing equipment. Jim Mero is nuts. Canít wait for Randy Pobst to get his hands on a ZTK. GM was just saving this for a rainy day as a punch to Fordís gut

No roll cage. Just a harness bar. There's a BIG difference.

That's quite fast. Time to visit all of ACR's track records to rewrite the books.

Way to go Corvette team! Reclaiming the record from the Canadiens (Ford GT is built in the land of Tim Horton's)

They never cage their cars. Just harness bars.

Also from the R&T article:

"Perhaps the most impressive part of this ordeal isn't the ZR1's lap, but rather a lap set by the Chevy team earlier in a manual-transmission Corvette Z06. They were able to lap the car around VIR's Grand Course West in 2:39.77óa little more than a second slower than the Ford GT. Not bad for being a quarter of the price."

Wow, unlike Ford they didn't even have to use one of their works race drivers to set the time which means the car may actually have more left on the table. All this for barely 1/4 the price of the Ford. Just stunned.

Much, much respect to ace vehicle dynamics engineer Jim Mero but just imagine this thing with one of Corvette Racing's fangs out Lemans winners Magnussen, Milner, Gavin or Garcia at the wheel.

Just...damn.

While interesting to look at, those are just the C&D journalist lap times. For instance they lapped the Ford GT 2:43 where as Ford lapped it in 2:38.xx

Just watched the video. 170 MPH in the front straight is over 15 MPH higher than the Z06. Wow. 157 MPH entering the climbing eases. I really want to see that VIR Full lap.

Right, and I'm sure sometime in 2018 the ZR1 will be added to the list with a C&D record (albeit slower than 2:37.25)
