There's always so much hype when a new cars coming out that the Dealer's play games. There are very few $145,000 buyers out there. Give It 2 months and I'll be dropping them by $10,000 and in one year you'll be able to buy it for $25,000 off with rebates.

I'm paying MSRP for my ZR1. I'm perfectly fine with that.

Safety Car
Way back when, after 2 years of the C5, the C5Z06 came out as a 2001. My dealer got an early build inventory car that had an Aug 2000 build date. He sold that for $14,000 over the $50,000 MSRP. I had bought a number of cars from this dealership and his name was prominent on my race car, and he sold me my late Aug 2000 build date car at $48,000 or $2,000 under MSRP. So pack exists and good deals can also exist. Even in the same dealership.

Ad pulled
I found this one on cars.com which is advertising a 2019 ZR1 from Hendrick Chevrolet for 8k under MSRP.

Makes good sense. I remember the $20K discounts on '16 Z06's after inventory build up and bad publicity regarding track overheating. GM Employee & Supplier Discount too. I will probably get an allocation soon but I can drive my C7 Z06 since I am keeping it. Like you, it will be difficult but I could probably tough it out.

However, if GM keeps production low...
My guess is the first 7 or 800 are pre-sold or sell very soon after they land at dealers, but after those cars, buyers will be few and far between.
As wonderful as it might turn out to be, it's a car purpose-built for the track and few folks actually do that to any great degree.
Perhaps most importantly...it ain't cheap.

Let's be completely clear here: GM isn't going to "keep production low" on purpose. That's not a game they play, unlike, say, other manufacturers. They'll build as many ZR1s as are ordered, assuming they can get the parts. The new carbon fiber pieces on this car are in incredibly short supply and there's no magic bullet on the horizon that's going to fix that.

As far as sold orders, it is evident there are far more out there than 700-800, one single forum dealer had an 80+ customer waiting list when ordering opened... Just as stated on many occasions, GM will sell as many as they can build and buyers will not be scarce at this price point. You wont see real discounts or surplus until MY2020 if not after. Not all who buy vettes do so because they are a bargain or cant afford a Lambo, Ferrari, etc. Saying there are less than 1000 people out there willing to spend $120K-$150K on a ZR1 is ridiculous IMO

GM obviously took a hard look at the ACR's poor reception and decided to make a more street friendly car that can still set lap records.
Unfortunately, Viper was never a competitor to Corvette.
Although they should have, Dodge never made a big enough investment in manufacturing to go after Corvette in the marketplace.

Over 5 years 4,684 were sold...or 937 per year.
