Default $5,000 Custom VIN Option

I was surprised to see on the C7 ZR1 Registry that 12 cars have been built with this option. Then I got to thinking if you wanted your allocation to move up this is a way to get it done.

Two dealers in my area have each had two cars built with this option and one of the two has a 3rd car coming with this option.

VIN 003 Orange Convertible Kerbeck Chevy
VIN 004 Orange Coupe Whitmoyer Chevy for Street Speed 717
VIN 005 White Convertible Kerbeck Chevy
VIN 006 Orange Coupe Patriot Chevy Limerick PA First ZR1 Going to Callaway
VIN 007 Orange Coupe Smith Chevy Burleson TX

5 Out of the first 10 cars built were ordered with Custom VIN Option

Good detective work. So instead of ADM you just pay it directly to GM to be one of the first few lol.

I've seen where dealers have gotten VIN #001 of a model, but it had the $5,000 VIN Option. So in a way, sure, ADM, but it does guarantee a low or particular VIN, which is kinda neat.

Custom VINs don't mean your car is built sooner. If I want VIN 5000, it doesn't mean I need to wait a year for it to come up in the sequence. The reverse is also true. The car gets built when GM is ready to put it into the production schedule.

well, the vins listed above all had this option and were the first bunch built. and i have to admit, if they figured out that is how to get it done, they wouldn't be bragging about it. kind of giving up the secret

hopefully someone with first hand knowledge could expand upon this possibility?

I wonder if you can get a vin with letters spelling out your name.

"Here’s what I found out:

How Selectable VIN works on ZR1:
Dealers submits the order with the RPO: PIN included
GM will contact customer on the choice of vin #

Things to consider:
The # must be within our current sequence format
It’s the last 4 digits of the VIN, not the whole VIN sequence
Must be within our planned production quantity. (I.e. if we build 1,000 cars, customer cannot have #1001 or above)
Price tag of $5,000

If you have a customer/dealer that is interested in this option and is serious about putting in an order, we can have the product team work with them personally to ensure their order is handled correctly. You’ll just have to let me know if that is needed."

Is this how you got Street Speed 717 and DHR Street Speed cars build so quick since both have custom VIN option?

Indeed, Timing was important for those buyers. The other allocations have already been placed during the normal allocation process.

Matt. Thanks for clearing that up. Hat's off to you for putting that shortcut out there. Although at 5k, not something I would tack onto a vette order to get quicker lol. Not for a lack of want more a lack of available resources!

Here is something to think about? If GM made the base price of the car $5,000 higher would you still buy it? If yes then the custom VIN option is worth it to get your car quicker if you wanted to have it now
