I have an opportunity to buy a 2019 ZR1. It was rear ended at the Rod Run in Pigeon Forge, TN last week.
The damage was barely visible. It is being repaired by a Chevrolet Dealership.
The owner is selling simply because he doesn't want a brand new car that has been wrecked (many people would not). Obviously, this decreased the resale value of the car.
The repair estimate included replacing the rear bumper cover, rear bumper energy absorber, and refinishing the rear bumper cover. The total of the repair estimate was around $2,500.00.
Given the above, how much less would you pay for the vehicle, knowing it was wrecked? It can be assumed it will show up on the Carfax since a police report was file. The car was perfect prior to the collision, and will be repaired prior to being sold.

IMO, putting on a new bumper cover does not equal "wrecked".

It's a used car, at this point anyways, so there that, plus damage, and depending on the title and if branded, or the carafe if reported, it could be 2-3 times the actual damage value in depreciation. Plus depreciation of being a used car, anyways. My two cents.

Been here, while the damage is minor, the car reports don't care. I had some jackass hit my Escalade in a restaurant parking lot a few years ago and drove off. A couple of people saw it and tried to do the right thing calling the cops. The ONLY damage was a small scuff on the AFTERMARKET bull bar. The part was like $500. I lost $2000 on resale because it showed it was in an accident which was at 7% at the time. Despite my fussing, nothing I could do would get that removed from the carfax report. That truck was 3 years old at the time and had 30k miles on it. On $150k car, I'm sure that number goes up exponentially - I'd guess 12% or around $18k on top of it being "used".

You really wanna know, get the VIN and call a dealer and ask what they'd give for it. On one hand it's really rare right now, but a couple years from now, when they're more plentiful is when you'd take the hit. Good luck!

I was in the same situation over the summer, got rear ended in my Z06. Damage was basically the same, replace the energy absorber, rear bumper and mufflers.

I got 8.5k for diminished value and traded the car in on an 18' the day I picked it up from the body shop. The car only had 2k miles and the appraiser spent about 10 seconds looking at the car, the previous incident was never discussed.

I came out ahead in my deal and hopefully the original owner will too if he handles DV claim right.

I'd be VERY interested to see how the dealership positions this ZR1. It could possibly be heavily discounted. I bet the dealership tries to downplay the damage and tries to sell it higher.

If the car hits eBay, it will sell regardless of the minor fender bender. The hype for the car is there and there are willing buyers. IMO not much of a hit in price now, but in years to come with plenty of inventory, you may see a marginal hit in price, nothing significant. Pictures in hand will help future value.

As a dealer (non-Chevy) if this incident is well documented with pre and post-repair photos as well as a detailed list of parts and photos taken of the entire process you can mitigate most (but not all ) of the problems with the damage. To a person like myself who is buying the ZR-1 for a track car, this would make very little difference to me and I would simply look at it as an opportunity to buy a discounted high demand car. While the paint repairs done at a shop can never equal the factory if it is done correctly, and you can get a reasonable discount this would not make me afraid to buy the car at all.
