Default The mystery gray. The king is dead, long live the king?

So I heard that my beloved and hope-to-order-really-damn-soon Watkins Glen Gray is going away in a couple weeks. Turns out that there are 0 allocations for WGG left nationally, so it can't be ordered any more. IE: If your ZR1 isn't 2000 yet and is spec'd WGG you have a big problem! Call your dealer immediately.

So I have a big problem too. And no, there is NOT a code for the new gray in the ordering system yet! But in theory I could still order my car with the new gray because my order wouldn't hit 2000 until after that code is available anyway. Or something like that.

However... I have it on somewhat good authority via another phone call (on the dealer level, but high-up), that the replacement gray is supposed to be very similar to WGG, and that the ZR1 shown below at the 2017 LA Auto Show back in December...

...is NOT Watkins Glen Gray, but in fact its replacement color. Hidden in plain sight. I have to admit that although WGG is a bit of a color shifter after seeing it in person yesterday I would agree that the above photo is probably not WGG. This color has a distinctive blue cast throughout, even when directly lit. I believe WGG would have turned to a warmer tone in the parts of this photo where it was directly lit.

More pics from LA:

And a walkaround vid:

Some WGG C7s for color comparison:

Even in this last GS pic the WGG looks different. It's blue tones are more of a teal, whereas the LA show car's blue tone was more of a true blue.

Can anyone confirm any of what I have posted?

Not buying it is still WGG! GM has no sense at all if they change one of the top selling colors! I say that is a rumor that is false till proven otherwise!

-Well, they did. I already have it confirmed that WGG cannot be ordered any more. It's gone. Done. The only question is what exactly the replacement will be.

The second and third pictures almost look like the C6 Night Race Blue.

Cool mine is still perfect but it still shows they still have a few boneheads in charge if true. They kept the ceramic gray it hardly sells.

WGG is the number 3 on C7's and 4th on the ZR1 selling color they have right now!

All news to me I just called my dealer to see if WGG can be ordered.
Hard to tell from the reveal we have seen the Orange looks completely different in different light.. WGG is another that changes with the lighting.
But after a closer look it does look like it may be a little different gray

all right, guys, just checked with dealer...there is one more order cycle for WGGM. (Not this one).... I had info in Feb. that there was a new color code GJI....Dark Shadow Metallic. This may be the color 'Palantirion' is showing above. I heard it was a bluer-grey.

Are you saying GM uses "sense" as a criteria for some of their decisions? The "shark gray" that preceded WGG was a very popular color too. It could simply be the lighting or the camera used causing the tonal variations in the metallic gray color. I think GM often has reasons like cost, availability and popularity to consider. With the new paint shop it may be that another color or formula would yield a better result. Sometimes I think they just like to change things up and out.

I can't find the pics right now but I have pics of a friends wgg GS near my shark gray Z06 inside of our buddy's performance shop. That lighting makes the wgg color look blue. It was startling how much blue gray that color is under flourescent lighting. Especially when there's a more stable "gray" to compare it to.

See my post on February 12...I've seen the new gray. Palantirion, I like your post. Seeing the ZR1 at the LA North American Reveal and then again at the LA Auto Show was a real treat. Oh, and I also think the new gray will likely be announced at the Bash.

I know Rick Corvette Conti said that he confirmed that the ZR1 that was at the Auto Show was WGG in his LA Auto Show vlog. Those lights at auto shows makes colors look totally different.

Crazy they killed this color, had to go Silver to keep my car allocation this round or push two months for a color I do not know I would like. excited am getting the car soon but would have loved my first choice WGG color. Hope silver looks good with Flash wheels, painted mirrors, black comp seats with blue stitching. Low wing for me

Because the ZR1 in LA wasn't WGG. As such, it's only a reasonable deduction that it's the new replacement gray.

So you saw the build sheet for the ZR1 in LA and saw that the RPO code for the paint was not Watkins Glen Gray?

The mystery deepens. The VIN for the Los Angeles car was posted to a photo gallery on CorvetteBlogger.com.

I ran the VIN, and this thing was actually built with RPO GBA - primary exterior color, black Maybe that was just a placeholder and they manually sent it to the new paint shop before it was ready? It is a pre-production, non saleable car, so that's not unheard of. All I can say is the RPOs don't list any gray, let alone new or old.
