Autoweek’s ZR1 fast facts

Lap 1 at the Milford Road Course, the new king 'Vette reached 168 mph, 14 mph faster than the Z06 on its first lap
-Set a production-car lap record on the 4.1-mile Grand Course West at Virginia International Raceway with a time of 2 minutes, 37.25 seconds
--2.5 seconds faster than the Corvette Z06around VIR
--Burned a full tank of fuel on the autobahn testing in 15 minutes
Reached 187 mph in the standing mile with the ZTK performance package at the Milford Proving Grounds
--Interior sound is quieter than a Z06 when in tour mode
--Exhaust gas temps are 800 degrees at the tailpipe
--ZR1 can ford 12 inches of water at about 4 mph (but we don't recommend it)
--Top speed (212 mph) to zero takes just 8.17 seconds
--Engine takes 110 hp to operate the 2.65-liter blower
--The most carbon fiber ever used on a Corvette
--The ZR1 can get to 60 mph in 2.85 seconds, 100 mph in 6 seconds and the quarter-mile goes by in 10.6 seconds

15 minutes to empty on the Autobahn lol. It once took me 3 1/2 for a 6 cylinder car to burn 21 gallons at full throttle for the majority of that time. Average speed was like 140 mph

800 degrees at the exhaust tips sounds really hot. I'll have to look closely at a ZR1 in person to examine the design of the tips and see if they have an outer dual wall design or some sort of cool cuff to avoid melting surrounding parts.
Pretty cool list of facts.

The LT5 engine pushes almost a kilogram of super-heated gas through the exhaust pipes every second at full power. The temperature and pressure of the exhaust was actually enough to inflate sections of the exhaust pipe like a water balloon under extensive track testing. We had to upgrade the steel in the system and redesign sections to cope with those stresses. Shields had to be added in strategic locations to insulate things like electrical connectors and half-shaft boots from the extreme temperatures.

I really hope that's not true. If it is it means it's a terrible car for road course as you don't have enough fuel on board to do a 20 minute session, let alone 25 or 30 which some of the organizers run. Yikes.

I have measured 1200F on a Z06 on the chassis dyno.

IDK if that's the case. 15 minutes at WOT 180+ speeds and overcoming all the drag associated with it. You wouldn't be replicating that on a road course. Though my logic could be flawed.

I just went and looked at some track data. Even at full tilt it looks like I'm WOT just under 50% of the time. A typical 30 minute session is really like 25 minutes by the time you factor in lining up to get out and the cool down lap to get back. I would expect that you could last that long on a tank of gas but not much longer. Even with the Z06 I've burned through a full tank in 32 minutes.

Except for the track guys, who wants more out of a session.

The fact that the ZR1 is a gas hog will be the least of anyone's worries. The ****-eating grin the car produces when you nail it clearly offsets the lack of economy. It is a bad-assed car for sure!
