Will 2019 ZR1 beat the 2019 NA GT3 RS at the 'Ring?

While that’s nice of Team Corvette to give their competition time, deep down I can’t help but think this is all bait. Why didn’t they release a time when they broke the VIR record a week before the FGT broke it? It’s like they are waiting to drop a bomb. Like yeah you go ahead and take an hour of our rental time, no biggie, we got this one in the bag kinda thing. I will never believe the ZR1 did 7:12. Has any of the more recent sports, super cars been attempting a record run at Laguna after the ACR? It’s kinda quiet over there.
You mean kind of like Tadge did with the Z06?? It was along the lines of we...ran it and we were very pleased with the time. Stay tuned because we're going to be releasing it very soon......

Lol, only this time he ain’t saying nothing. I’ll be glad when this is all over, whether it comes out next month or in a decade, I can then go back to saving my pennies to buy my first Vette.

Good find: Thank you
According to this article GM volunteered their track time to help Porsche https://www.carthrottle.com/post/che...3-rs-ring-lap/

Maybe Porsche was sandbagging and Corvette felt bad about the P slow time.or Corvette knew they had nothing for Porsche and decided to leave.

Maybe Oliver ain’t got use to the car at the Ring yet.

Do we even know if it was Jim driving? It could have been Oliver. His post on instagram last Fall included something to the effect of him working on "taming" the ZR1 at the Ring, so it didn't sound overly confident. Plus while he's an excellent C7.R driver, he had a considerably slower lap time than Andy Pilgrim when they drove Grand Sports at Atlanta Motorsports.

Sad we never got an official GM laptime for any of the C7 cars. I believe that’s correct?
So weird because GM hyped ring times so much with the C5 and C6 along with the CTS-V.
makes you wonder?
so, I have a 2018 GT3 and am on the list for an RS. Waiting for allocation with the next wave that is supposed to be coming. If I don’t get an RS, I’m quite happy with my normal 991.2 GT3. I have similar laptimes already between it and my 2010 ZR1 which I still have. Love that car and not getting rid of it.
I’ve had two GT cars so far (GT4 and now this GT3) and it’s very fun and the almost flat depreciation curve doesn’t hurt either.
I am interested in the C7 ZR1, but will want a $20k discount like I got on my 2010 ZR1 so will need to wait a while or I may never get it if they don’t build enoufh of them. Also, want to hear real-world reports on hot weather performance and any degradation. That is one thing I love about the GT Porsches. They just don’t overheat and they feel fresh after a very hard track weekend. My coolant sits at 185 and my oil temp is 220-225 flogging the GT3 at COTA and other tracks around Texas. It’s nice.

For the C8 reveal there will be a map of VIR in the display background rather than the Nurburgring ;-)
Jokes aside, it's not surprising to me that GM isn't investing as much in chasing ring times (as much as I'd like to see a sub-7 minute time), as many of the top times are now achieved with "street cars" that have basic functions deleted for weight savings or that such limited production cars have blurred the lines with production cars. The first odd new record was the "Nismo GTR" which clearly had aftermarket parts yet still is listed on the production cars lap Ring time listing.

I'm a former ZR1 owner and loved that car. However, comparing what a used car goes for commonly, to the new price of its competitor really means nothing. Further, the GT3 is pretty ,much the same since 2014. I do agree its still impressive on the part of the ZR1 however.

They've looked at it! ;)
If a time doesn't translate than there simply still is too much fundamentally wrong with the car. IE The Viper's front tires, and the C7's extra weight, possibly.
The Ring literally shakes that stuff out. Tadge's "Proving of Mettle" if we will!
Another Telepierre Nurburgring Special Edition!?

Anyway, just love both cars for very different reasons. The ZR1 is a keeper I’ve had since new for over 7 years and I still smile when I drive it. That said, the 9,000rpm wail of the flat six is impressive especially with a GRP center exhaust bypass. Below is a quick clip of me running down the front straight at COTA:
Then again, this is my ZR1 and that beautiful LS9 running down the back straight at COTA:
