Default Will 2019 ZR1 beat the 2019 NA GT3 RS at the 'Ring?

I'm hoping the new ZR1 beats the Gen5 ACR Viper since it's already taken two track records away and becomes the first American car to break 7 minutes, but the 520hp Porsche with only 346 ft lbs of torque is one efficient machine...

Default 9000 rpm!

It makes the bigger HP, right?
A lighter well balanced valve train and reciprocating assembly costs money!

Porsche always prove how awesome "balance" works for them. I think the ZR will surely beat the ACR, but hard to speculate by how much. If it beats this Porsche, I doubt it will be by much.

Yeah, it spent most of the time above the ZR1's rev limiter which RPM's also create heat. 13.3:1 CR in a pump gas street car is crazy too! Though it cost $188k, that's still cheaper than anything else under 7 minutes and the majority of the cars on this top 10 list which I'm sure the new ZR1 will make as well as possibly the least expensive to break the 7 min mark...

Yea never understood how those damn Porsche's kept up with other cars with higher hp, it drove me insane, so I bought one of those damn Porsche's, and it just does a lot of things really well.

Which one do you have and do you by chance drive it on the track at PCA events with Schattenbaum or Riesentoter?

They sure do do a lot of things really well and the new GT3RS, if they can be had reasonably somehow, is going to be exceptional in skilled hands.

Don't they have to make it around the track to get a lap time?

Yeah, they may not have the discount off MSRP like Corvette's do, but they also retain value better than most vehicles.

I've only driven a 996 GT3, but imagine the new gt3rs with 325mm rear tires yet less than half the torque of the ZR1 will be easier to drive fast especially without the computers assistance.

I am not a current Porsche customer so it's doubtful I could buy one anywhere at MSRP although I am checking.

I spent time last season in the current GT3RS and it works well. That particular car was a a lot of fun as it hung the back end at corner exit literally off every corner. It was a blast and I was thankful the owner trusted me enough to let me drive it!!

You are right on the money with the depreciation piece and why I am seriously looking into it.

I've ridden shotgun in a 991 GT3 and it is intoxicating listening to it rev to 9k rpm, ever since I worked at Porsche dealership after getting out of the Navy I've dreamed of owning one though the 996 GT3 still goes for more than a new Grandsport.

That's really impressive what those Porsches are doing. Is Porsche bringing ringers?

With that sort of performance, $175K (mentioned by someone above) seems rather reasonable honestly.

I was under the impression that the rear engine layout, while working well, was not so dominating. I guess I was confused.

Pilot sport cup 2 R s....the Porsche being 10 to 15 seconds faster than previous generation is huge,

Something's up...

Still congratuons to the Porsche brand...

That's faster than the Porsche 918...(the million dollar Porsche )

I currently own a porsche I give ZERO congrats to the GT program.

The cars are insanely overpriced and, more importantly, they create artifical demand by restricting supply.

I can walk into the dealer and offer a pile of money to ORDER a car and will be told no. On an ordered car!

It’s the ultimate middle finger to the enthusiast.

What’s more, I have a hard time believing the factory claimed time. AP said in an interview that they did not use “cheater” tires just as Michelin were developing a cheater tire for the GT program.

I wonder if the ring test car has a/c delete as the lightning lap car did?

^^^ I agree with your opinion of Porsche right now. It’s disheartens what the dealers are doing, As a 2014 GT3 owner, I thought I’d be able to buy a newer generation or RS without a ridiculous ADM, but that is not the case. Still an amazing machine.

but hey, now I get to explore a ZR1... would have never happen if I had an allocation for a GT2RS or GT3RS.[/left]

I have a new 991.2 GT3, 6spd car, and love it. Feeling fortunate enough to get a GT3, I've got my name on an RS allocation, but it's all this 'highest bidder' stuff... if I'm not able to get the RS, I'll be looking at a ZR1 by the end of the year, once they start discounting.

I've got one at MSRP, 3ZR, ZTK, Auto if anyone is interested, happy to pass it on, I'll be doing a manual again. Which is the only bummer on the RS, as the 6 speed in the GT3 is by far the best manual trans car I've ever owned.

Best Regards,
Dave

The 911 GT3 RS has the most advanced, most track-oriented, and latest version of the Sport Cup 2 tire (new "R" version). those tires are likely good for several seconds over even the ZR1's best sport cup design in the same application. I still believe the ZR1 will top the GT3 RS's time, given it's distinct power advantage, and what is likely comparable aero, but only IF it is given the same optimal environmental conditions at the 'ring for a hot lap as the GT3 RS enjoyed. The other huge factor is the driver. I believe Mr Mero is one of the most talented engineering drivers around, and seems totally fearless, but he is not a pro. Performance levels of these versions of sports cars are so high, only the very best drivers (top professionals) have the neuromotor abilities and lightning fast reaction skills to fully exploit the cars' capabilities. GM has always used engineer drivers in their 'ring lap times, which is commendable - I believe all of the recent GM lap times would be faster if they used factory racing drivers. I think the ZL1 1LE would be close to 7:10 with a professional racing driver. Porsche has more opportunities to get hot laps at the ring than Chevy does.

I agree Porsche has an advantage being that the track is in their backyard and they're going to go out when conditions are ripest. Like someone would if they lived close to MIR and cared about drag racing ETs. I didn't realize it was on a new compound cup 2 which I'm sure is faster as the name of the game is all about improving. It'd be interesting to overlay the GT2RS and GT3RS videos to see how much difference the extra 180hp/207ftlbs made as they run the same tires and less than 100lbs separate the two.
