I got a LOT of emails today with "First Drive" articles about the ZR1, including this video. Matt has always done a nice job.

I couldn't own that A8...it's impressive to a degree but...frankly, the tranny is the shortcoming of the car. Shame they couldn't have something on par with the Ford 10 spd in there, or even a DCT. The ZR1 would be brutal with a legit dct.

Oh well...that's what the manual is for....just gotta do werrk.

That was great!

Nice video. He did a good job of selling the A8, but still experienced some of the issues that come with an auto.

I would have liked to have seen the car deep into the curves after the straights to see how well the car would sort out, NOT his stupid shifting, and complaining!
More the guy can drive and did well your opinion is the one null and void before you posted!

MF doesn't have an axe to grind.
Still...he isn't always the most knowledgeable of reviewers.

Oh boy, here we go. So how long before the first road course guy complains his auto trans overheated?

That transmission looked like an absolute dog. I know with certainty it would make me hate the car with those kinds of issues. I actually love the complaint that the car is too fast to shift the manual. That sounds like a wild ride.

His last lap babble, not unlike your evaluation, was realtime simply verifiable (based on his own pronouncement) extraneous !

I also would have liked to see the car sort out early floored off curve onto some straights. He had enough time and warm tires!
They bought him a flight and a meal not to be an amatuer!

Ironic you are speaking of babble while your babbling and drooling on your own keyboard.
Maybe better wire up the loose muffler and go drive your C5 on in and kick some tires at the dealership.
They might place some value on your thoughts.
Most everyone else enjoyed the thread.

A8 is for those people who buy the corvette and keep in the garage. Mostly older generation folks who are tired of clutching after decades of driving stick and definitely thats understandable no disrespect

I would never buy a sports car auto unless I have so much money and so many sports cars on the side that are manuals that I need a pure crazy track weapon just for lap times and then I ll buy a car with PDK or equivalent that will only be used for lap times. I would still use my stick sports car for fun at the track not lap times and for every day use.

it doesnt matter how fast A8 shifts the entire concept of not shifting yourself is just does not make sense. Its lazy, its less involving, and its less fun.

but this was a great video, Matt has done an amazing job.

The A8 is what it is at this point. It works best when you set it and forget it. Would’ve liked to see his lap with the auto doing the work it was designed for.

Other than that, looks like the ZR1 is all its cracked up to be. He did 10 laps in the auto and didn’t mention any type of overheating which Farah is definitely not scared to highlight.

Love how he puts into perspective just how fast 755hp (minimum) in a purpose built sports car really is. With the ongoing horsepower war it's hard not to get desensitized by the specs and numbers and not realizing just how bonkers this level of performance is.

Also loved the ZR1 article Matt wrote for Road and Track

Default Don't wet your pants quite yet! ;)

There's are trackable cars that will be doing the straight line thing better! And at limit in the curves they're drifting, which, isn't a guess.
Not all are quite so setup for the curves as the ZR1 and that's where she really needs to shine.
Still guessing!

Looks like he had a lot of fun. 8:22 pretty much sums it up.

I couldn't see spending twice the price of a Z06 on it unless I lived at the track, but it is quite the machine.
