Interesting tidbit from the article and Farah's video "... the 755-horsepower figure, according to Juechter, is a worst-case number. Meaning in most conditions, such as our cool morning in Atlanta, the LT5 will make markedly more power than advertised."

As will just about any gasoline-powered engine. :-) Cold air == good! Don't take it too literally.

love this part:

The engine is 50 percent bigger, physically, than the LT4. It is absolutely absurd, and you cannot believe it fits under a Corvette’s hood. Well, it most certainly doesn’t. And the ZR1 doesn’t even have a hood; it’s more of a Carbon Fiber apron, which sort of surrounds the lower half of the engine. When raised, clamshell-style, Siegfried and Roy could jump tigers through the hole. I, a fat human, would easily fit through this hole

Pretty negative review on the A8's performance. Quite surprising GM doesn't seem interested in fixing/altering the algorithm/shift logic to correct this.

Also found it interesting his comments about the GS being 'just right' on the track.

Having tracked extensively my Z51 in stock & built forms (515 RWHP), and now a stock Z06, my take is the Z06 is hands-down the faster car on the track. I don't find it any more difficult to drive at speed than my Z51 in either form. I would in fact argue it is more planted and predictable, and the brakes are hands down better (though the CCB's are coming off soon due to excessive wear). I have not had the pleasure of driving a GS at speed however.

The ZR1 looks like an absolute knock-out though.

Andy Pilgrim's article in Automobile magazine praised the A8 and in fact he prefers it for track work over the M7. Also he did a 25 minute session in the A8 in 90 degree weather at 1:30-1:31 lap times with all temps in the green.

Just read the R&T article. Much the same from both Pilgrim and the R&T journalist. Both preferred the both hands on driving experience of the A8 at full chat. The journalist couldn't seem to control the A8, Pilgrim could. Better driver? Certainly, but I wonder if Pilgrim was in PAS as the Corvette engineers suggested while the journalist decided he was smarter than the engineers and wanted to shift himself which of course is necessary in the Z06 due to the PAS overheating the car too quickly as it shifts at too high an rpm and too quickly in Performance Algorithm Shifting. I only have used the PAS once in my Z06 and lordy does it shift as if it totally knows what to do when it wants to do it. But again in the Z it will overheat quickly. I sold my track car to a buddy that also has an ATS-V which has a bit less hp and a lot better cooling than the Z and he loves the A8 in PAS. Enough cooling to work and he says the beauty is that you never have to think about shifting as PAS is always in the right gear up and down and all you have to do is steer and brake. And he is quite the hot shoe.

Interesting that they quote 10.1 @ 134 for the 1/4 mile "in the hands of a GM Performance driver"

I guess GM is as interested in fixing the A8 as they are in fixing the nav system in my 2016 Z06.

"A tank of gas disappears every 26 minutes. Tires should be replaced every half hour or so. Front brake pads last just long enough to get through Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti double album. Not that a Lamborghini Huracán Performante does much better—but a stock C7 Z51 will run on track for eight hours with nothing other than a couple of fill-ups and a few brake bleedings. Consider yourself warned."

26 minutes on one tank... going to need more fuel jugs

ZR1 is a knockout. But it doesn’t warp your sense of speed. That’s only happened once to me in a car. 1500hp UGR Gallardo.

I’m sure if you run the ZR1 at the same speeds as the Z51 nothing would need attention.
