ZR1 Tail of the Dragon
Finally got the opportunity to run the dragon. Got to open it up a few times lots of traffic. Car drew lots of attention at the metal dragon at killboy. Got some good PDR videos IPO put up later. Had the wife with me so I had to behave.
2019 ZR1 sitting in front of killboy.
Tie downs worked like a charm kept the luggage perfectly in place!

Going to do the Dragon on my way back to FL with the new ZR1 as well. They just need to build the darn thing, TPW is 7/30 am sitting at 3000. Anything I should know, looks like a blast

Try to go during the week, less traffic then.

RedRay, my TPW is also 7/30 and I'm planning on the Dragon on my way back to South FLA.

it is truly a fun ride if the road is open in front of you. Good luck and enjoy.

I live 70 miles from the the Dragon on the TN side. I only go on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, its the least amount of traffic.
It can also get heavily patrolled by the Police.

Now that you have done the Dragon, put Needles Highway in the Black Hills of South Dakota on your to do list.

The tail of the dragon is Rt. 129; which starts south of Maryville, TN off of Rt. 411. I have friends that live down there and we run from that point to Robbinsville, NC

The Dragon is kind of a joke. Unless you go mid-week, you will be stuck behind rolling barricades of Harleys. Some are nice enough to pull over and or allow you to pass, but most most are not. There is almost no possibility of passing during the 11 miles on a bike, let alone a car, so if you get stuck behind these a-holes, it a miserable, loud, and absurdly slow experience as they sputter and tip-toe along.
Cherohala is a much, much better road.

Tail of the Dragon would be even more fun to drive, if it wasn't for the Harleys cruising at 10-15 MPH and refusing to use the pull offs so faster vehicles can enjoy the experience.

for the guys in the area
are there better roads around there?
I went thru it the first time in a daully and a 35' trailer[jan-feb-midnight][map said it was a real road too] only 1 other vehicle[semi truck going the other way],and 10+ times in cars

There are good roads all over TN and GA in that area. I run the Helenring and sections of the Gauntlet. They aren't quite the Dragon, but there is a lot more of them, a lot less traffic and you'll still tear up brakes and tires on the downhills....little to no police action either.
Unfortunately, the east of America doesn't have the same courtesy as the west canyons...people will pull aside in the canyons of LA...not in TN.
Helenring is below...Rt17, to 180 to 348. You'll see a lot of caged cars, Miatas, Porsches, etc. Helen is also a very cool town with a lot to do for family...it's like a village feel...pretty interesting. Lots of big overlooks on 348. Many guys will run 348 back and forth...even on weekends it can be pretty clear. There is a road just east of 348, Rt19...it's pretty serious. These are all in close proximity to Helen, so you can run the roads, then go to Helen and chill.
