Default Weight's Old news!

https://www.torquenews.com/106/2019-...er-key-details

I didn't know the A8 was that much more, but, The Ring 7:12 makes even more sense. Tadge had it in Dubai!? Tadge's weight not mattering is C7 consistent. I'll leave out the additional verbiage.
And
A pension of Slicks! That cush car to the exotics equalizer.

Because I cant afford a GT2RS for $400,000.

But just because of that it doesnt mean I should settle for less. I firmly believe the power of social media and small incremental changes to a product being possible by the push of people such as ourselves. I think enough people raise a stink, we as the enthusiasts will enjoy a better C8 platform.

I also cannot stand the people who drink the kool aid and bury their heads in the sand. Facts are facts and this car is way too heavy. If someone told you the next generation ZR1 would be 300-400 lbs heavier in 2011, you would laugh at that person.

I also said this before what makes Corvette a “chevy” product vs a Porsche is that Corvette will always “cut corners”. The coolers in z06, absymal transmission overall, the ring time picture in 2013 detroit show but no ring time, no ring time with zr1 again, or making the car blow up to 3700 lbs. Take a look at the entire C5/C6/C7 corvettes. They are filled with these terribly executed cars (its the truth). Its like someone has great ideas in Detroit but they can only execute 80% of the way.

then look at Porsche and what they do with GT cars and how they handle their problems when they happen (991.1 GT3 engine issues). The extent of detail and engineering they go into each of their cars. Its one total package and they are honestly a class act.

We want Corvette to beat Porsche. And not just beat it in 1/4 mile times. We want it to beat from A to Z. The full package. Period.

For $140,000, I dont want to see threads where someone says they got a welcome package and in it is a picture of stingray! What the hell, seriously! Or that they made the car as heavy as a mustang. Come C8, car will be heavier with the dual clutch and more luxury features. Then what? Porsche still finds ways to make their GT cars 3100 and 3300 lbs (NA vs forced induction). And we all love the supercharger whines but they are so 1980s like tube TVs. 100 hp to get that supercharger going whereas the turbo in GT2RS uses how much hp? Zero. Right. See? They both go around a track fast but one does it brute force the other actually goes the extra mile.

Default But a Corvette is built to mod! ;)

The warrantied list!
  1. Slicks
  2. GM intake
  3. Race pipes
  4. 100 octane
We play saving $260K, on the bright side.

To the best of my knowledge that “7:12” run was basically a guy with a stop watch. They haven’t started any real runs on the ring yet. Considering its VIR time is faster than a 720, 918 or that fancy ford GT I think it actually may be faster around a track than any of those. So yeah it’s big but...

If Chevy were to address and solves all your complaints you would be presented with your original problem . You won't be able to afford a $400,000 corvette. And more importantly , neither would I!

While I also think the ZR1 should post a faster time that "guy with a stopwatch" also timed the GT3RS at 6:56 and that was the time Porsche released. Also a 7:12 is by no means a warm-up lap, they were definitely trying for a good time we just do not know what, if any, issues came up.

3670 lbs is incredible. My GT350 is 3720 lbs with 1/4 tank of gas, fully stock. And thats a big a$$ mustang.
While heavy,
It kicks the **** out of YOUR car, and the FORD GT, a 500,000 dollar CAR!

I agree Sub, they were certainly pushing but who knows what they were doing that day. I’m going to impatiently wait for a video and see what’s up then.

Has anyone posting about a Porsche 911 of ANY sort, really stopped and LOOKED at that body? The styling is beyond hideous. Seriously. No thanks.

Exactly.

Let Porsche try to make a ZR1 equivalent for $140K. They'll sell you half a car.

No, I wouldn't because I understand that 3500-3700lbs is the range most high-end front engined sportscars of the Corvette's size reside.

The Mercedes GTR and the Ferrari 812 are also in that weight class, with F-Type V8's weighing in at 3,800-4,000lbs in both RWD and AWD form.

I'd also know that after the Z51s came in at around 3400lbs, adding an S/C, bigger wheels/tires, and adding 5-6 more heat exchangers would add weight as well.

As much as I hate it, the Corvette faithful haven't asked for a stripped out RS-type car. So until then, all performance Corvettes will be full weight, full feature cars.

The 7:12 Nurburgring time IS NOT OFFICIAL. Do you REALLY believe the ZR1 is only 4 seconds faster than the Camaro ZL1 1LE?????

Wrong! The notion that a turbo doesn't consume any engine power to drive it is a myth, an an old wives tale.
Both eat horsepower to drive the compressor off the crankshaft, they are just hooked to the crankshaft in different ways. One uses a belt to connect the compressor to the crankshaft, and the other uses compressed gases. The power penalty for powering the turbocharger is that the piston encounters more resistance on the exhaust stoke, because it needs to push the exhaust into an exhaust manifold which is well above atmospheric pressure.

The flip side of that argument is that the belt-driven supercharger doesn't really take 100 horsepower to drive, because with any sort of forced induction, that power is partly recovered because of decreased resistance on the intake stroke. A simple way of looking at it is that the piston is being pushed down by the compressed air.

All I was saying was its an incredibly heavy car, very disappointing if you ask me because I would rather take a 3100 lbs car that has 600hp over 3800 lbs car that has 900 hp.

the fact that the flagship corvette weighs just as much as my 177 inches long big *** mustang is hard to swallow. Sorry but it is.

I’m sure you must have taken some form of Physics in some class in your life. F=ma is what I would say. You just cant cheat the law of physics by adding more power. Car will go fast in a straight line but it wont be fun, it wont be nimble. Or not as good as a lighter car.

plain and simple, this car is just too heavy.

also plain and simple, it is not hyper car competitor as some exaggarate. It does not “destroy” cars 4-5 times of its price. Mclaren 720s is 2x the price and that car traps 8mph more and it does it in 9.8s.

yes zr1 is a great car but i m not buying into the kool aid and i dont think it is as good as it is being exaggarated here. It doesnt beat 720s. It doesnt beat 918 or gt2rs. Heck we dont even know if it can keep up with gt3rs that has 70% of its power.
Clearly, you have not been to Spring Mountain.

I believe they continue to demonstrate a complete lack of confidence over there.
Maybe it is the fast shifting? Maybe it is the overall grip. Maybe it is just all the risk, and hoopla.
Maybe they should tweek her for The Ring.

She is not taking off over there!

Didn't you mention you drive a Mustang? While you doing all this complaining? Corvette Z06 is my car of choice. Does it have a few short comings? Yes but they are far over done by the huge AFTERMARKET.
In which more should take advantage of.
