Default LT5 crate engine

Considering using the new LT5 in a resto-mod project. Anybody heard whether this engine will be available as a crate engine?

I checked GM Performance and they don't have it listed, but perhaps it's a bit early yet.

That was my thought as well - and by fall the timing would seem more likely.

Good to see ya in here, man.

Sounds like a great choice when they become available!

Yeah - only thing a little worrisome is nobody has yet cracked the ecm for it. I keep thinking that's just a matter of time and somebody will. At least I hope that's the case. Would be nice to be able to custom tune one.

I agree, I can't remember the time frame it took to get into the LT1/LT4 platform?

Let's hope that it happens soon.

It didn't seem like it took very long with the LT1/4. This new encryption on the LT5 sounds like it's going to be more of a PIA to get around, but hopefully it'll get cracked.

Someone will crack the ECU before summer ends. Companies like HP Tuners want to be the first to do something, and they will use lots of resources to accomplish that. Where there’s profit, there’s a way.

Best looking engine GM ever placed into a vehicle IMHO. Mercury Marine ftw.

How are you going to keep it cool? There are so many coolers in the ZR1 putting them into a resto-mod seems like a pita.

It won't be living on a road course track.

Then don't you need the ECM? Then the hood would need to be really tall!

Obviously need the ecm, and the hood is a non-issue.

C2 Stingray resto-mod. Would be set up similar to the C2s running LT4s or LS9s.

Of course, would need GM to offer the LT5 as a crate to go down that path.

I'm pretty sure GM will sell an unlocked ECU with the crate engine or at least as an option. You won't have to crack a production ECU.

It's a good engine for a transplant. The DI fuel pump is in the block so you won't have to mess with that. It's still compact in most dimensions, except perhaps height which is a non-issue in ME designs.
