LT5 crate engine
Considering using the new LT5 in a resto-mod project. Anybody heard whether this engine will be available as a crate engine?
I checked GM Performance and they don't have it listed, but perhaps it's a bit early yet.

Yeah - only thing a little worrisome is nobody has yet cracked the ecm for it. I keep thinking that's just a matter of time and somebody will. At least I hope that's the case. Would be nice to be able to custom tune one.

It didn't seem like it took very long with the LT1/4. This new encryption on the LT5 sounds like it's going to be more of a PIA to get around, but hopefully it'll get cracked.

Melting Slicks
I've still got one laying around from 2002.....if you don't mind a 50% power cut.....

Someone will crack the ECU before summer ends. Companies like HP Tuners want to be the first to do something, and they will use lots of resources to accomplish that. Where there’s profit, there’s a way.

How are you going to keep it cool? There are so many coolers in the ZR1 putting them into a resto-mod seems like a pita.

I'm pretty sure GM will sell an unlocked ECU with the crate engine or at least as an option. You won't have to crack a production ECU.
It's a good engine for a transplant. The DI fuel pump is in the block so you won't have to mess with that. It's still compact in most dimensions, except perhaps height which is a non-issue in ME designs.
