Default X Pipe

Is the ZR1 x pipe the same as the Z06? 2 & a 3/4 with a single "X"?

It’s a cat delete yes, but they are not monitored...do they do a visual inspection in CA and would they even know that they are missing if they aren’t monitored by the vehicle?

-Yes, CA does visual inspection. The thoroughness of that visual inspection probably varies, but I know they look for anything non-stock under the hood (compared to pics on their computer screen) and they know how many cats to look for from the same database. Further: Wouldn't removing these cats affect emissions? These aren't like the US-only header cats on my Z4 MC's S54 that only exist because of non-EU cold start emissions testing. I would think that downstream cats would make the tailpipe sniffer fail.

Theta has posted that removing the X pipe with its cats (putting in a replacement one without cats) will not result in a sniffer test fail.

What Theta has posted, has always been 100% in my book!

As stated above by elegant...removing the stock X Pipe will not effect emissions.

Sucks on the visual inspection...

Is the replacement X-pipe substantially re-designed from GM's or is its benefit primarily that the cats are gone?

IE: If someone were to bore through the cats...

The replacement X pipes are of a somewhat different design, you could perhaps get some benefit from boreing through the cats but for some reason I think that would add to too much turbulence / potential back pressure...I would leave that to others to verify though...

Now that I think about it though...the X Pipe is located under a plate and I don’t think a visual inspection would reveal any change unless this were taken off...so you might not have an issue with the aftermarket X Pipe...

I am also curious how much louder the car is with the secondary cats deleted. Anyone take before/after vids?

Definitely going to be a good amount louder. Weapon x should have videos somewhere since they added the corsa x pipe.

I read somewhere on the forum that the cats were hollowed out and it didn't sound good because the hollowed out chamber of the cats resonates alot.

Not true at all, at least on the previous model ZR1, it sounded great. No resonance but I don't know about air flow/turbulence.

The cats aren’t hollowed out, they just don’t exist on the aftermarket X Pipes. Unless I’m not understanding your statement.

Some guys use stock exhaust and just hollow out cats.
